Loved it. Was such a fun, wholesome, genuinely funny movie. And I'm just gonna come right out and say it: Chris Pratt was great, as Mario.

Also, since no one seems to have been picking up on it, Charles Martinet wasnt just the arcade guy. He's also Mario & Luigi's dad and uncle.

The family scene in particular spoke so hard to me as a New Yorker lol. That's just my family. Hell, their mom looks just like my mother, just without glasses lol. Made me so damn happy.

Yeah, was a very fun movie. I was a little surprised by how much talk of murder and killing there was. Especially when Bowser said he was going to capture Mario and kill Luigi in front of him.

now that we've heard more than two lines from Pratt's Mario, I think the voice wasn't bad at all.

This was pretty funny and kinda weird, but I feel like it's probably the directors trying to push the envelope since we will never ever get dialogues like that in a Mario game.

I liked that we actually got to hear Luigi say the word "hell" lol. (Technically "hellhound" but still)

Everyone talking up Jack Black as Bowser, but no one's talking about Fred Armisen doing a sassy old Jewish man for Cranky. Cranky and DK stole the show for me personally.

Cranky was my only real disappointment character wise tbh. Didn't really capture the spirit of the character at all for me. Just felt like a generic hard to please Dad.

I want the old guy calling them whippersnappers and talking about how movies and games used to be better.

I felt like Armisen kinda phoned it in on some of his lines

watched it yesterday and i really enjoyed it! i wanted a fun and entertaining movie that was faithful to the source material and that's what i got!

Chris Pratt as Mario wasnt as bad as i expected but Charlie Day as Luigi and Jack Black as Bowser were the real stand-outs IMO. rest of the cast was Nice too. visually, it looks stunning and colorful! and as far as plot goes, it was alright but then again, i didnt expect any award winning material. lol

too bad i didnt stay for that post credits scene with Yoshi when i first saw it. had to look up on YT...

My hot take: Jack Black was over hyped. The Bowser was basically just Paper Mario Bowser, and Jack Black was just Jack Black. It was fun, but I don't think it was anything remarkable.

You didn't miss much. I felt it was kinda weak as a sequel teaser. If we had gotten to see Yoshi actually pop outta the egg, I'd be more excited.

I feel dumb for overthinking it but now that I've seen someone else point it out I'm pretty sure the post-credits scene is just a Godzilla 98 parody.

I got chills hearing the SMB3 theme with the Tanuki suit and teared up when the plumbing commercial showed on the broken TV.

Same. I teared up a bit when I heard the Rainbow Road theme. There's just something about that song that hits different.

I gotta be the party pooper, cause I didn't like the movie much.

It started off fine, but once we get to the Mushroom Kingdom, all substance is gone.

I feel like it's made for very little kids, and nobody else.

I mean that the movies stops any pretense of being "about" anything, and becomes mindless spectacle that never stops to let anything breathe.

Maybe I'm just wrong for expecting Pixar-level writing, but I feel like that's my standard at this point. I've never seen any other Illumination movie, I have no interest in them, but if they're all like this, my disinterest feels correct.

In the movie, Mario and Luigi live with their mom and dad and other family members in the Bronx. They even share a room as if they were still kids.

I greatly enjoyed the movie. It was a lot of fun.

And I love how the right-wing culture war grifters on Youtube have decided that Mario is their boy, and are defending the movie from the evil snooty cultural elite critics, even though they previously complained about the movie supposedly going woke by making Peach a girlboss. Some people are just pure contrarians, I guess.

Can we talk about the fatalistic Luma and how they felt they had to keep bringing it back? So weird.

Other than that and lackluster Cranky, I thought the movie was a joy.

I liked how when Peach told all the toads to evacuate because of Bowser's impending arrival, Toad just matter of factly looks at her and says "No, I told you I wouldn't let anything hurt you".

Yeah, that was brave of him.

...It's just a shame that the decision put him in place for Bowser and Magikoopa to use him as leverage.

So where do you guys think this universe's Peach came from? I think she might be related to Rosalina, then got lost in the Mushroom Kingdom when she was baby Peach.

I agree. The luma was in there to tie to galaxy in a sequel.
