I feel like corporations want a world where they pay nobody and have no operational overhead but everyone spends money liberally.

TC typically makes dumb topics but I agree with the premise as elitist as it sounds. If I ever have kids, they can do whatever they want when they grow up but they will at least know something STEM that they can fall back on if they ever need it

I wish my minor in Psych worked out. I just liked the subject but it was almost impossible to find time for it due to the zero crossover between it and my IT major.

I wonder if there's still a way for me to explore learning psychology now that I'm no longer in school...

I've got one, but a lot of places refuse to accept it as valid just because I designed and printed it off myself.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

You can quote yourself how ever many times you want but it's not gonna make it true. If anything it's going to require more qualifications for engineers so when fancy black box AI application spits out something that doesn't work or isn't plausible, they can work to address what went wrong instead of praying for divine intervention that it works eventually

These are my exact thoughts. They can become whatever the fuck they want so long as they have either a STEM degree first or at least a very strong analytical background. If their dad did it then so can they.

But why?
Because it pays well, but mostly because I feel that going through such rigorous classes has allowed me to comprehend why anything happens rather than merely wonder about it. If philosophy allows people to find their path through life them STEM would allow my kids to better understand the inner workings of anything.

Dont get me wrong, Im not trying to claim for a moment that STEM isnt valuable. However, its very possible to be successful without that background.

Beyond success, I'd like them to achieve a certain level of understanding. I believe a stem path would allow them to be better people, to not just be observers but to actually have the critical thinking skills to succeed. To be more rounded individuals.

Plus even if they don't pursue the degree I'd teach them everything i know anyways.

Well it should be a two way street. You should finance a large portion of their education so long as they pursue the right programs.

You dont think something like philosophy or history teaches critical thinking skills?
