The first movie takes repeated potshots at the actor Ronald Reagan being president. The second movie has more Reagan jokes and Nixon becomes a four-time president seeking a fifth election thanks to Biff. They even took a potshot at a future president in Donald Trump. I gotta say that's pretty fitting of a series that deals with time travel.
I feel like there was something in the third movie as well, but I don't remember it if there was. Maybe another Reagan joke. (The third film is the weakest anyway.) But, yeah. In case you missed it, the uneducated, greedy, bigoted bad guys are Republicans.

I revisited the trilogy a few weeks ago, but didn't make a topic about it because I wanted to announce a remake starring Brie Larsen and Keke Palmer for April Fool's. Unfortunately, a tornado took out my internet the night before. :(

I am glad you lost power. That lie would have actually rustled my jimmies.

I think the Regan joke, at least in the first one, wasn't necessarily a shot at Regan himself, but just how far fetched (at the time) the though of an actor 1) going into politics and 2) rising in the ranks so high as to become the President, was such a foreign concept for the 1950's.

Plus, Regan was nothing more than a B-Level actor at the time.

It would be comparable to someone in 2050 coming back to our time and telling us Anthony Mackie was the President.
