Started a few months ago after having a horrible experience at a startup. I have been really loving my role and team. Its seriously a miracle that I even got the job in this market. Thousands of recruiters have been laid off in the last few months. A friend of mine has been unemployed for 2 months and jobs are so scarce and get thousands of applicants. Its all about who you know who can get you an interview. The job I got had over 1000 applicants but I was lucky enough to have former colleagues who referred me. I still had to do like 6 hours of interviews to get it though.

I still have a lot of anxiety around job security. Every day my feed just has more posts from recruiters that have been let go. Which means more people applying to a small amount of jobs. I look at job postings to help my friend out (Ill message anyone I know at companies that are hiring) and there are so few or they pay a fraction of what I make. So Im just making sure I stay on top of my game just in case. But its been scary.

I can only imagine what it would be like to work for a startup. My stress-induced encephalitis would probably put an end to me.

I did work for an 8-person programming office/IT firm once though, and it sucked monkey cheese.

Nah Im not to worried about it. Maybe help sourcing candidates but it cant negotiate salary for someone, or pick up on social behaviors in an interview, etc. It wont replace the initial call with a human.

And thanks everyone. It is really nice to work somewhere Im excited about for a change. Its been a few years since I felt this way. Ive been getting a lot of recognition too.

Only thing is Im flooded by messages every day from people who are laid off. Its depressing. There is little I can do to help like 99% of them.

Ive been at my new job for two weeks and its better in every way from my previous one which, while not a start-up, was a small 75 person place that was kind of insular and didnt seem to have a positive outlook

Its so nice to get recognition here. Ive built a bit of a name for myself over the years so I ended up knowing a lot of people at this company who all messaged me to say they were so excited I joined. And others I didnt know but they have been following me and welcomed me. Ive worked on my brand for a long time and its starting to pay off. I still have hopes that I can go independent one day. But the market right now is too terrible.

Im so glad youre enjoying your new job as well! Yeah smaller companies mean less layers. If you have any issues with someone or any particular policy, you will feel very exposed to bring anything up. At the startup I was at, my boss was toxic but my boss was the VP and the only people above her were the company co-founders. The company I joined is a much larger company, around 10k.
