It ended earlier this week or last week, but I finally finished it last night. What an amazing show! I was not expecting that ending and it makes me super excited for the second season. I really enjoyed the entirety of the run.

Started out as skeptical as everybody else, and the first few episodes were pretty weird compared to the original anime...

But as it went, I got more and more into it, and now I can't wait for the next part.

Yeah the ending was fucking amazing. That final episode should cause every nay sayer to do a 180. I liked the original anime but I don't have super duper fond memories of it as I do with something like Cowboy Bebop or Outlaw Star, but this new rendition was done so damn well.

It being set prior to the anime and more or less be an origin story was such a great idea. I was surprised when they ended up going to JuLai, cause I was like "isn't that the town that gets destroyed and cause Vash his mega bounty? Then, lo and behold, he destroys the town and gets his iconing $$60 billion bounty, Meryl becomes Millie's senpai, his hair is back to the classic way and the next season is ready to rock.

I don't know if I would like it. I hated Vash in the original anime just because he was terribly written.

It was good, but not really as a remake or anything. It completely missed the point of the original in just about every way.

Yes. The best way to describe the difference is to talk about the "Vash the Stampede" title. In the original it was because Vash would show up and all of the bounty hunters would destroy the town going for him. In the remake Vash leaves the town and then they give up to just ransack the town. They don't even bother to make it related to Vash at all, and it is shown to be something happening all over because of the new plot with Knives.

And it's even worse when you look at the entire point of the show: the commentary on pacifism. That, however, would involve a lot more spoilers.

Did you finish this one? Cause it kind of explains why you would think that

Yes, I did.

Huh, I thought it was a nice way to set the stage for the OG Trigun style to come back.

I mean, it did a good-ish job in quite a few ways but in a very superficial way. It ignored the themes of the original while also spending a lot of its time going "Hey, you remember that bit from the original? Well now we said the line!" This is why I would compare it to something like VIIR (or Star Wars Episode VII...) where it's not literally all bad or anything but it is clear that there is more effort on nostalgia-bait than actually making a good product so anything but a basic interpretation of events is shelved. It sets up the stage, but it fails to really do anything but go "I bet you wanna watch the original now, dont'cha?" as far as content is concerned. I'm fine with plenty of changes that were unpopular, such as having one of the dynamic duo switched out or the use of CGI at all, but my issues come from them just making a vapid product that doesn't do anything more than call to the original and be pretty.

That's fair. Like I said I was never fully in on the original anime from 1998, I vaguely remember some episodes during the midnight Adult Swim animation time (same with Yu Yu Hakusho and...Blue Cell? I can't remember the name of the one with alien bugs and such). I thought going into this relatively blind helped since I know it eschews the feeling of an old timey western style. It is there every once in a while but this rendition felt pretty great for someone with only a vague knowledge of the original. By the end I was all in, I really thought those last few episodes were just awesome. Once episode 3 happens and shit hits the fan is when it gets it's stride. With the increase in the bounty to the OG anime's levels, I assume the second season will feel much more like the 1998 one.

As someone that owns the original anime and manga I dont agree with this take at all.

Stampede doesnt make want to go back and read/watch the originals. It makes me curious to see what happens next.
