so, two weeks in, are we still happy about the rules changes? I know I am, though i can see people maybe thinking steals have swung too far towards the runner (80%ish success rate right now, iirc)

ok, what're everyones' thoughts on the pretty obviously larger strike zone being called early on this season? it seems expanded by half a ball or more in every direction to me.

That's just umps being umps isn't it? I haven't noticed anything all that different.

that's definitely possible. but it's something i've noticed in almost every game i've watched. in previous years, i'd see maybe a pitch or two get called even if it missed the overlay, and quite a few not get called even if they touch it by part of the ball.

this season, i can't remember more than a handful all season not get called if they're touching, and several a game get called even though they miss. the up and away call seems to be the most common, but i've seen it expand in all directions, even in the same at bat.

Going into this season, I would have expected the other way around. But man, the Cardinals are just playing like crap.

had to wait until after hockey, but RTJR. Brewers being annoyingly good, though, so still two back. can't say i expected this start (even with the relatively easy april schedule). doubly so after Cruz went down. but i'll enjoy it while it lasts.

Scherzer just got ejected for having sticky hands. He blew up at the umps saying 'it's rosin' from the rosin bag. Given that he's playing in hot ass LA, sweaty hands + rosin, i'm inclined to believe him.

I just don't think Scherzer is the type of guy who'd be stupid enough to get caught doing that. Also, since they introduced this rule, this is the only third time they've ever ejected someone. All by the same ump. So that looks suspect as well.

Between this and the Domingo German situation with the rosin the other day, MLB is going to have to address this I imagine.

I believe Scherzer 100%, in his interview he says he cleaned off the rosin, reapplied, all in front of an mlb official, before being ejected by ump

After some crap games against Houston (fuck the Stros), Jays are playing the Yankees well. Won the first game yesterday, in a scoreless game into 7 tonight.

Yankees offense continues to disappoint. And Vlad Jr. continues to kill them. As always, I think the AL East will be a toss-up this year. The Rays will cool down, but I think at the end of the day they're still equally as good as the Yankees and Jays. And then who knows with the Orioles and Red Sox. I don't really put them on the same level as the other three AL East teams, but all five of them are above .500 right now.

Also, Pirates now have the best record in the NL. Quite the rare sight.

i just finished today's game. i was going to post this, and then wasn't going to risk it. it's been a hell of a run, but they have had a pretty easy schedule. Dodgers series should be one to watch.

Harrison Bader is almost singlehandedly carrying the corpse that is the Yankees offense until Judge and Stanton come back. It's wild how much better the AL East is than every other division. The new balanced schedule really emphasizes it even more than previous years.
