"The sweeping Kentucky measure would ban gender-affirming care for minors. It would outlaw gender reassignment surgery for anyone under 18, as well as the use of puberty blockers and hormones, and inpatient and outpatient gender-affirming hospital services.

Doctors would have to set a timeline to detransition children already taking puberty blockers or undergoing hormone therapy. They could continue offering care as they taper a youngsters treatments, if removing them from the treatment immediately could harm the child.

The bill would not allow schools to discuss sexual orientation or gender identity with students of any age. It would also require school districts to devise bathroom policies that, at a minimum, would not allow transgender children to use the bathroom aligned with their gender identities.

It would further allow teachers to refuse to refer to transgender students by the pronouns they use."

This bill will absolutely kill children. It'll deny children healthcare and basic knowledge, which will kill them. It will force detransition which will kill people. It'll muzzle teachers who try to teach or show empathy. It'll segregate students and force them into the wrong spaces. It's a blatant attempt to erase trans people from public life, as people have been warning for years now.

To the people who will inevitably dispute this characterization, if some state government banned chemo or dialysis or some other recommended treatment necessary to preserve mental health and life, you wouldn't dispute that they were trying to harm people who needed that treatment.

I'd assume there's never really been anything more than the awkward "cow head" drawing, and splitting the classes up to watch those sex-ed films from the 50s.

I'm sure they will totally fire a straight teacher if they mention their spouse at school. Or if anyone ever uses any gendered language to refer to a student.

Kids need to be kids. They can have gender identities and learn about straightness after high school.

They're already working on that, Florida is banning any insurance from providing any gender affirming care. They also passed a law the other day making it so if any cis person in the bathroom objects to a trans person being in there, the trans person will have to immediately leave or it's a misdemeanor at minimum and a sex crime.

This is what makes it so frustrating to vote for the Dems. They're the only party that can realistically push back against this fascist BS, but they're being very limp about doing so. Not just this, but the sycophants in the GOP can go off and say whatever awful shit they want about the Dems, LGBT people, etc., and there's almost always silence from the Dems.
