I've heard hardcore is too hard and even standard mode is too hard for alot of people.

Normal for first run then hardcore when you've experienced the game.

Standard is perfectly fine. If youre that bad at aiming there is an aim assist option too.

Decided I'm not going to be a pansy ass little puncy bitch. I'm probably going to get bodied.

I'm finding normal fairly easy after completing the original a few days ago, but the difficulty has ramped up a bit in the castle.

Start on assisted and play a few chapters to get the feel of the game.

Then start over on standard or hard-core. Don't ask us, decide yourself what you feel comfortable attempting. You have nothing to lose but time. But then, what are you playing for if not enjoyment?

Do we know if this remake has adaptive difficulty like the 2005 original?

Life already did you hard, enjoy the easy difficulty.

the game says "if you played the orginal re4 play hardcore" but it seems like everyone ive seen do that ends up finding hardcore too hard

Just from playing, it 100% does. I won't see an enemy drop a herb for hours, but as soon as I run out and get low on health, the next corpse will give me one.

The infamous village segment is waaay harder than the original.

A shotgun blast won't stun the chainsaw guy, there's way more enemies, it seems you no longer have iframes when vaulting over stuff.

I only just scrapped by but I have no bullets or healing left :(

They also removed all the cheese strategies. If a room was a choke point with a single entrance in the original, they've added a window so the ganados can flank you. If you climb the tower, the floor collapses from under you. If you kite them around a shed too much, they'll move a cart to block your path.

But there is one new way to fuck with it, but it's probably impossible to do without NG+. If you shoot the church bell, they instantly stop attacking and go pray.

I started on standard and it's a decent challenge still.
