Everyone that plays the game or has a few friends who do it has heard the horror stories of charisma-based player characters that try to use their powers of seduction to get by everything, from golems and orcs to ghosts and mimics. Even dragons.

But what most people don't know is that the success of such attempts is proportional to how close to the beginning of the session they happen.

So, in other words, the early bard gets the wyrm.

My warlock does not. Though he does perform a ritual to give souls to his patron.

Random question about the game. Why would someone want to be a bard. Are they not just singer ?

they're full spell casters, highly skilled at whatever they want to be skilled at (usually charisma based skills though), and they can buff the rest of the party. the only role they don't excel at is damage

Also, bards don't have to be singers or musicians. I've never played, but I've had a character idea for years which is a bard that uses the resonance of the universe to cast spells.

Matt Mercer, a popular DM, once mentioned he had an idea for one that would "conduct" the sounds of a battle, turning things like the sound of swords clashing into music. He also had an evil NPC bard with no connection to music or performance, he essentially told his magic armor monsters to get the fuck up and do their job.

In EXU: Calamity, the bard is essentially a newscaster.

Of the Dimension 20 I've watched, one bard was an actress and another was more-or-less a ribbon dancer. The latter wasn't even really a spellcaster, he went with the subclass that was more about sword fighting.

In AD&D you needed to have really high stats (almost 15+ across the board, IIRC), had to be a fifth level fighter, fifth level thief, and then become a druid. This meant that a level one bard was dramatically stronger than essentially every other class.

Which makes sense. If your only skills were alerting the wildlife to your presence then you wouldn't be a particularly good adventurer.
