I mean back in the day it was super racist and homophobic. It still very much is.

But I just got off back to back matches on Siege where one team was praising Hitler, and then the next game I had teammates who were laughing about the school shooter today and said they were glad that a "[t slur]" did it.

I get these are just kids trying to be as offensive as possible but the next generation is possibly super fucked considering even back in the ancient Call of Duty matches, there wasn't people like Andrew Tate and Nick Fuentes going around being a central inspirational figure for teenagers. These next few years are going to get increasingly scary I feel...

Oh btw, I'm just pointing out two matches I had today. Sadly this is an increasingly common occurrence for kids/teenagers with a mic in online competitive games. Again, racism and homophobia has been going on since the Call of Duty days online, but now it's getting violence oriented and it's pretty scary.

That's really shitty, but that still sounds like shit I heard in games and in school 20-30 years ago. Kids cheered watching 9/11 live like it was an action movie.

The problem is kids are more exposed to internet now and the internet is more of a wild west in terms of what you get

back when 4chan was 'the worst site' and stuff and youtube was properly moderated it was kinda hard to get into the alt right side of things. not even without it existing but the beliefs like racism etc
now you have algorithimms targeting kids to push it through cause it creates talking points more than 'nice' stuff. after all if we talk about 'racist douchebag 14' all the time even if we're saying their bad then facebook or reddit is like 'hey this is what people want lets show it more and more'

but also cause it's more mainstream if you were 'the kid on 4chan' in your school you were weird. now it's 'oh yeah on discord i saw this video about a guy telling me how women are just sluts and we shouldn't treat them like their equal to us guys' it's more 'normal' so it spreads faster

Online has always been toxic >_> If you get a PM calling you all sorts of f-bombs and slurs after you beat someone in a match, that means you played the game pretty well lol

Idk. Hate to do the "back in my day" crap but the edginess extended to your typical racism and other bigotry. Now that being racist and bigoted is somewhat of a norm now for people sadly, the "edgy" thing is to promote violence as much as possible.

It's a different tone.

Let's just say that a lot of adults give a terrible example to kids. It doesn't help that people on social medias pretty much made their motto "Attack the messenger, ignore the message"

That said as a gay guy, it was hell to come out in high school. Being a teenage edge lord is something most people grow out of, but just look at how grown adults insult each others even on these boards for liking different games(although for some reasons, GF do not go into personal insults as much as before)

Give people an outlet without sufficient regulation and "no filter" philosophy flourishes.

Shits changed for sure. I don't play any competitive games online anymore because if it isn't cheating, then it's bad attitudes/toxicity.

Doxxing has always been a go to tactic for incels when they get pissy.

The problem is its way easier to do these days in terms of the tools and methodology. Nevermind that internet safety is basically non existent now, and people post everything on their socials as if they're just talking to their close friends and not literally the entire world.

Yeah, it blows my fucking mind how much people put online >_> When I was a kid, I was taught that everything is permanent and you shouldn't post anything online. Nowadays, people post all sorts of wacky shit without thinking it through
