Yeah, I finished what I was playing and started on this. It's okay, though it definitely has room to get better as more stuff gets unlocked/the story actually gets moving. This series is always super slow burning so having a weak start isn't necessarily all that damning.

This game also really shows off the creepiness of the fanbase because there is an attempted boycott because removing Ryza's pants (through hacking/modding) causes a drop shadow over her nethers and the eternally horny crowd is freaking out about censorship. What petulant, horny babies.

I haven't played a Ryza game yet but was thinking of booting up Atelier Escha & Logy. Escha has a fox tail on a belt that moves on it own because of magic I guess. I know that's not big thighs but it's a gimmick.

What? My Atelier topic got more posts than this and it wasn't even about Ryza. I figured there would be even more horn dog posts here. And I am a little curious about how the 3rd one STACKS UP to the others.

As mentioned I've just started (only about 5-6 hours in) but so far I'd put them in reverse order with 1 > 2 > 3. Despite having improvements in each iteration the overall package continues to deteriorate. The core combat is just substantially worse and despite being more open the world feels more "small" (presumably because it is opened up). There are some things that could potentially elevate the experience quite a bit (there are "Super Traits" that they have added, but I haven't seen a single one yet, that could really make for some interesting potential stuffs/rebalancing the messy end-game of Sophie 2).

Well I like it more than Lydie and Suelle that's for sure. Firis has unique costume effects, an open world that is somewhat fun to explore (how can you not love the idea of the traveling shop ppl), like more than five different endings/character arcs. The synthesizing is actually pretty cool, I don't mind leveling individual recipes and with the costumes it's barely a chore. Mass synthesis is something they could have done more with; the broom is absolutely based. It's also a Plato Cave Allegory plot.

The gear system kind of sucks, combat is whatever. Lydia and Suelle has the best combat of the three I think but it also felt like everything else was lacking... Been a while since I played it though.

That's odd how they can be better but maybe overall worse still in ways. I am getting the feeling that Atelier Shallie is easily the worst, but Atelier Ayesha is way different than Escha and Logy.

Basically the plot is you have to go town to town and acquire marks and then go to the capital and pass the exam right? And then the game is technically over? But then everything else you do is post-game and I think thats how the game loses me, because it doesnt make sense to me for some reason. Like, what are you supposed to do once the game ends with you passing the exam?

There are like 8 character endings that don't finish until after the exams. The exams are the Firis' story, after the exams is everyone else's story more or less.

It is common for games, especially when you go about things critically. For instance, they made it much faster to gather materials. This is an obvious improvement looking in, but in practice it also makes it much harder to internalize all of where you get the materials when mixed with the smaller emphasis shown on what you having gotten. Thus this causes you to have to pause when going through areas to make note of what you've gathered, removing all of the time save in the first place. In effect it makes the game "feel" worse as while you are still getting everything faster even with all of the pauses the fact that you are having to alter your gameplay to facilitate the design makes it grating. On the second pass this becomes moot as you will have memorized everything, but it is relevant when you are just starting the game.

I saw five minutes of someone playing it on youtube. Those thighs are insane.

There are a *lot* of "side"-quests that open up. Most of what you gave prior to the exam are single-part affairs and everything afterwards gets a lot meatier.

I got it on Steam, but haven't gotten a chance to play it yet.

I have never played a game in this series before, but Ive been hearing a lot of good things about Ryza 3. I want to play it at some point this year.

I only played the first game and can't decide if I liked it or not.

I also bought as many of the costumes without the cape for Ryza as humanly possible.

I don't know Ryza but I was actually surprised to see some people in Atelier Ayesha in Atelier Escha and Logy. Freaking Ayesha is "on the lam" so to speak.

I played one of the Iris games... they are very different. in fact i remember not even really using the alchemy. Also my friends came over and saw the game and were like "wtf is this lol"

got me feeling like a huge sucka for buying the first two games. at least they were on sale....

I might stream Ryza 1 if any of my friends are up for it, I'll drop the link here if I do

I got some ways through Ryza 1 and then stopped before the first big boss fight because I got bored with it. Read the synopsis and then skipped to Ryza 2 and Im little ways into it and enjoy it a lot more

yeah i think that's normal i saw someone else say they didn't really like Ryza 1. L&S was the most recent one I played though so Ryza 1 will probably still feel like an upgrade to that

Have you tried Sophie 2 yet? I played it last year when it released and enjoyed it but I stopped since they were occasionally releasing new stuff so I figured Id wait to go back to it when all the DLC got released. But I liked it a lot and Sophie is my fave so more Sophie is always great. (Also I have a bad tendency of not finishing games if you havent noticed)

i have a lot of unfinished games as well lol. I will probably get Sophie 2 on sale, but no I've not played it yet. the point in the timeline this game happens is weird because I'm already used to adult Firis and Plachta having a human body now

this is the least contrived beginning to a game i have ever encountered. they just randomly decide to leave town for the first time.

combat is good. glad i got the 2 first games

Battle Mix is probably the coolest Atelier combat system thing I've seen, but I was just not really a fan of that one tbh. The girl wearing red, I forget her name, is great though.

So what is stopping you all from playing these great games? lol
