Thank god that garbage didn't stick. The people who were defending it were god damn delusional. But I guess since literally nobody tried it again, they were very much an obnoxious minority. I wonder if it would have been better received if the test subject had been less awful.

The first movie was the only one I saw in the theater. I think it was supposed to be high frame. I remember in the opening when old Bilbo is walking to his book, thinking that it looked weird. I might have gotten used to it later in the movie. But I never understood the point of that style

Depends on how and when its used. Avatar 2 (and the Avatar 1 rerelease) had HFR moments. I think it works well in some of the action scenes.

People say it looks like soap operas or day time tv, but I really have no association with that. What it looks like to me is someone shooting home movies on a handheld cam recorder. Some of the scenes in The Hobbit where the medieval style towns, buildings or clothes of people are visible it legitimately looks like a random person shooting a renaisance faire.
