Rollback isn't confirmed. Gameplay doesn't seem like it's getting good reception by vets. Lots of massive hitspark animations. This game looks shit.

The game has not been looking good from the trailers at all I don't get why anyone is excited about it.

*shrugs* I think it looks great, but I'm one of those MVC/GG fighting game fans that will never turn down more speed and aggression in my gameplay. Plus we still know precious little about some of the heat mechanics and how they interact with frame data. All we've seen are company-manufactured combo videos and super showcases.

Is it weird that as a huge GuiltyGear player this post really has me immediately worrying about Tekken now? >___>

I haven't seen much and thought it didn't look too bad. This topic worries me though.

Looks good to me and I believe I read that you can tone down, if not completely remove, the hit sparks (which are a little much imo)

I'm beginning to believe that ridiculous overuse of particle effects in games is just a thin excuse to avoid doing a Switch port.

I really hate the camera angle shifts during hits, it's way too jarring

The animations and hit sound effects are nice

I just wish it was like, more different. It just feels like they added mechanics on top of Tekken 7 but I'd rather like a reimagining or something.

I don't mind the crazy hit sparks and stuff, if anything it might be interesting to lean into those more. Have cool outlandish moves for everyone, give King a steel chair, have Paul swing his bike by the handles to hit them, etc

As someone who played the demo, it fucking hurts me that the game isn't being released until June. It's so fuckin good. It takes and mixes mechanics from previous games and let's us do fun stuff with it. I also like that there's an answer to most mechanics as well. It's more than just doing a hit confirm/crush counter into a long combo or like SFV, it's going into the SFIII route of actually making you think because even the safe options like blocking and pokes can be punished now. Playing the demo, I felt in high level matches that I was constantly on my toe anticipating what my opponent was going to do and reacting to it than playing it super safe in SFV.

The devs have said in interviews that aggression is a key theme of T8. if you watch the character trailers, everyone is constantly burst-dashing in combo follow-ups to keep up the pressure and some characters like Law and Paul have already showcased some nasty one-frame or super armor looking counter-hits that lead to huge combos, so it seems to be very high risk-high reward.

I suppose if you're a classic tekken fan who wants to see characters wiggling back and forth constantly you might not find that in T8, but it's also far too early to write off high level play since nobody is at that level yet.

That makes me feel a little better. I mean I've never been a huge tekken fan anyway, but I'll have to try it either way.

Since this is Tekken, the move is probably unbelievably unsafe on block. The one Law used in his trailer leads to a massive follow-up though (its at 1:00 in the video below):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6j1BEga_BIM

EDIT: He uses his heat meter to pursue in the combo following that for those wondering what I meant by aggression.

Some just frame actions, like God Fists, are one frame based on your controller input, not visually timing something on screen.

I wish more games would let you queue inputs. Just frame timing is super annoying.

Hell no, it makes Smash Ultimate feel like shit. I think a tiny buffer window is ok but it should never be so long as to have an input come out when you no longer wanted it to.

It's not really any different from any other kind of unsafe play.

Like imagine you whiff Chun Li's super because they teleported behind you (nothing personnel). That's not categorically different from queueing one input to immediately fire off after your first. In both cases you're going to eat a punish because you committed to an unsafe play and can't back out.

In the end, pressing B,B,B isn't all that functionally different from B, two frames, B, four frames, B, other than smug elitism.

The problem with input buffer (being too high) is that it takes control away from you. The game is no longer reacting to you directly, it's just remembering you and then acting when it can. Imagine you're playing Super Mario 64. You are trying to do a walljump, but you miss. And when you land on the ground, Mario automatically jumps because it stored the jump from the failed walljump. That sequence of Mario's movement is not tied to what you're doing, but what you did.

Think about it the other way too. It also rewards players for not having any situational timing. Let's say that in order to punish a move, you have to time your counterattack. If you can just mash the button so that it stores the next input, you get a perfect counter every time.

It just feels bad. By feel, I mean like, mechanically, not morally lol. A little bit of buffer is okay, that way there's a little leniency on doing the things you want to do. But when it stores info to spit out later, it doesn't even feel like it's me doing it, it feels like I'm piloting the game or something.
