https://old.reddit.com/.compact

Yesterday, i.reddit.com and reddit.com/.compact stopped working and now redirect to the new mobile interface, which is a sluggish mess especially when compared to the lightweight compact site. So if you are using Reddit on a mobile browser, then the above link should get you back on the Compact site.

...Though who knows how long that will last?

Because it loads much slower on mobile.

And the new interface on desktop isn't much better, since it compresses the space for content resulting in more nested comments that you have to expand, more empty space on the sides, and each page now shows additional links to other submissions on the subreddit instead of just showing the relevant comments for that submission like before. It's also a bit slower than the old interface, too.

why not just use a reddit app that's based on old reddit formats, like Relay, Baconreader, RiF, etc?

I exclusively use Reddit on mobile browser and think it looks great. Far better than the mobile app, which is bad and stupid.

It constantly nags to download the app, which is a terrible doorslam anti-pattern.
Why even make a responsive mobile-friendly-ish site, if you don't want anyone to actually use it?
