All the complaints from the chuds on the right are really making it seem like it's just silly comedy fun which I get why some people won't like it lke yourself but from what I was told it's not really a mcu interview and the director just ignored all plot points to do his own thing so it seems like another what if movie

some of the worst effects and lamest jokes in an MCU movie to date.

and i also feel like the villain was terribly underutilized...

It really is kinda bad. They took a story from the comic that is extremely dark and serious, and then littered the movie with massive amounts of comedy. It really is very unfitting. Also, the villain is not in enough of the movie. He is barely used. He should have been in way more total screentime than he got

Do you and Irony have wildly different voices...

I prefer Dark World and Iron Man 3 to Love and Thunder.

He has a scene that was in the trailer, where he goes nude. You only see his ass though.

The best part was the beginning with GOTG after that its terrible

It's a godawful, tone-deaf movie no matter your political orientation. The good parts, like Bale's portrayal, only make the rest of the movie look like even more of a giant sore thumb.

It was a romcom that wasnt funny. Like, what was Waititi doing? This was so bad. Is he actually a hack?

the villain could have been anyone iunno why they used Gorr, its not like he did anything Gorr would do

and the scene where we get his origin is one of my most hated sequences in any Marvel movie.

He's in a desert, his daughter dies of thirst, he passes out, it turns out they were near an oasis the whole time, he finds a god in the oasis and the god, unprompted mentions they're celebrating for having killed the holder of the necrosword "before he could kill any other gods with that blade". Like Christian Bale is acting his heart out in this and that's great, but it is just such an awkwardly set up scene and the setup is so ham fisted it's just ugh.

I could forgive it if the comedy was actually funny like in Ragnarok

Even though I'm still salty af over that movie

But yeah if the comedic stuff was better it'd bring the movie up, but as it is it's just unfunny as hell.

And the movie could have easily balanced a comedic tone with grim and serious stuff, like if you watch his indie stuff you can see Taika Waititi does this all the time, just in this case he... didn't lol

Also yeah the effects were fucking awful. Though in fairness that's less the film's fault and more of a general problem with Marvel atm

I dont think its bad. Its not great but its not even the worst thor movie

6/10, had more ups than downs but marvel gave taika too much freedom

I thought it was the other guy, his generals will be better

i honestly think i liked the dark world better tbh

the cgi/art direction in that one was better than Love and Thunder at least lol

While it was happening I thought it was a vision or hallucination created by the sword or someone to get him begin his quest of killing the gods. But no, it actually happened like that based on later scenes lol

Trivia: it was banned in my country.

Very similar to Ragnarok. Easily the second best Thor movie at worst. One of the best (if underused) MCU villains. Very vibrant color palette.

It felt like they were forced to make as many jokes as possible. Nothing mattered cause they have to make jokes all the time. The villain almost didnt matter. He felt unimportant and you knew he was just going to be in this movie alone.

For this part, you can hear the sword calling to him at that point. I didn't take it as a literal oasis, but rather him being chosen by the sword allowed him to see the forest and approaching it transported him there.

Sure, that's all quite a big stretch to make, but I like it better than how the movie presents it.

Also, I agree that the movie kinda sucks. Almost none of the jokes landed. Korg was God awful, despite being good in previous films. The whole thing felt like everyone believed it would be loved just because Ragnarok was, so they just churned out done garbage and chucked it together.

Gorr is one of my favorite MCU villains. It would've been cool if he was, y'know, actually in the movie for more than like 3 scenes.

Love is just the worst name ever. Like it took me a second to realize thats her name.

Tbh the jokes are so bad that the screaming goats didnt bother me at all. They might be the funniest joke which tells you how bad the jokes are.

I kinda liked it (at least parts of it), but not enough that I'd be motivated to defend it, tbh.

My biggest gripe was how much of a missed opportunity Gorr was. I loved the God Butcher storyline in the comics, Thor was haunted by Gorr during his entire life, actually feared him and it made him question the meaning of being a god. With an actor of Bale's caliber he could have been an iconic movie villain.

There's some similarities with Age of Ultron: both comic books had intimidating villains that were threatening enough to actually win and cause significant damage to the world (and ultimately needed time travel shenanigans from the heroes to defeat them), whereas the movies treated both of them as villains of the week, nothing a good ol' fight couldn't resolve.

That said, my friends who didn't read the comics enjoyed the movie a lot more than I did so it could just be my own expectations being let down.

The hate boner that people have for this movie is so weird. Like.. its a Marvel comic book movie. I dont see whats so offensively bad about it that isnt present in many of the other ones.

Im guessing its just a case of fatigue at this point which I think Im still immune to because I was a late-comer to MCU.

And particularly since previous Marvel films have had better CGI, better villains, better tonal balance, and better dialogue, this film doesn't get a pass.

to the movie's credit tho, i did like that whole black and white sequence where they fought in the Shadow Realm or whatever...

It was pretty embarassing

It was pretty good, best marvel movie in a while imo. Idc about accuracy to source material. The jokes landed, Chris Hemsworth is entertaining and Natalie Portman was there.

Compared to other recent marvel movies...
Multiverse of madness was ok
Black panther 2 was bad
Black widow was bad
Shang chi was ok
No way home was ok
Eternals was good

But I'm the minority probably, seems most people have opposite opinions of me

It just did a bunch of simpsons jokes and was way too heavy on the other side

I never plan on watching it

I'd take a frog thor film over that in a heartbeat

On top of the movie's obvious flaws, I think people expected more out of the kooky auteur genius who took the boring-ass Thor franchise and spun a top-five MCU movie out of it.

The only aspect of Love and Thunder that genuinely disappointed me was...well, remember several years ago when you saw previews for Infinity War, and Spiderman and the Guardians were going to be in it, and your cynic brain told you that they would probably just be weak-ass 5-minute cameos, only to have the movie come out and roundhouse kick your cynicism by masterfully juggling screentime between 30+ superheroes? Then fast-forward to the (relative) present, when Love and Thunder comes along and validates your cynicism with an actual 5-minute Guardians cameo, and it becomes that much more of a letdown.

I thought the movie was hilarious. I feel like it gets so much hate because people were expecting it to top Ragnarok

I honestly don't know how people didn't expect Love and Thunder to be a silly comedy after Ragnarok, Fat Thor, and his What If? episode.

MCU Thor is a comedy character that gets the occasional serious scene, not the other way around.

Like any good running gag, they ended on a high note right at the point they were wearing out their welcome: them screaming just after crashing into the tiny planet was probably the biggest laugh I got out of the movie.

I wanted to like it, especially looking at the BTS and how it was Ragnarok's direction that made Chris Hemsworth like making MCU films or how Natalie Portman didn't want to return to play as her character, but she returned when she was happy they were doing something unique with her character.I also felt that both actors had the best chemistry in this movie than any of their previous Thor films. I also appreciate they didn't take the easy route of Jane "replacing" Thor and instead actually went through of killing her off.

Because otherwise this was a huge mess of a movie. Everytime they cracked a joke I just wanted them to take a breather and stop, but no it keeps going and going and going. It's like watching a bad stand up comedian trying to retell the same joke over and over again and no one is legitimately laughing, but instead giving those "pity" laughs because we feel bad for the guy. The villain was great when he was on screen, but suffers from the throwaway villain syndrome. The CGI is noticeably bad in this movie as well, but I'll give this a slight pass because it's an industry problem than it is a Marvel problem, even though they do heavily contribute to the problem.

I wanted to like it, but I couldn't. It's a below average MCU film, but at least I think it's better than Quatumania... that movie was a bigger mess imo.
