I want to play a certain build and roleplay it. I'll do that for a little while, but eventually go back to how I always play the game with the same weapons/armor/spells/etc. Anyone else like this?

Mostly with Skyrim.

I can usually never play a different build than what I initially gravitated to using the first time.

Every Skyrim build always devolves into a stealth arcer build.
It is one of the axioms of this universe.

bloodborne has cool weapons, but i will never not play ludwig's to moonlight.

I don't but I really don't play that many RPGs that allow for build diversity on the fly instead of having to spec into them from the very beginning

For Souls games I make multiple characters each with a different playstyle. In Division 1/2 I swap between a number of builds as needed or when I'm bored playing one build in particular. For Skyrim I just max out everything and then pick how I want to play whenever.

There should be more RPGs where leveling up is based on usage. I think only the Elder Scrolls and Dungeon Siege games have done that.

Only in ones that make it annoying to use the build. That said I don't really have a "standard" to speak of and just run whatever seems the most interesting.

Yup, tried melee builds in Fallout 3, NV and 4 and in all 3 I eventually gravitated back to G U N

EDIT: Same with Outer Worlds

No, I always try out unique builds, especially if it's something only that game does.

Nah, if I pick a build I usually stick with it, but I really only try builds I know I am probably going to like. I am def not the type of person to try some random build.

Figuring out the min-max builds is most of the fun - unless you get brickwalled by some boss, and have to ask google.

Role-playing game I never really understood. Most people don't conform to dialogue trees irl, but I guess that's why you have to be good at the game.

not that i role play a certain build
but i'd like to see how much i would like a different build compared to the tried and tested stuff

not me. i play a barefoot, armorless mage every time.

If the +infinity sword was meant to be a bonus and not an actual part of the game it would be DLC

Nah, I usually have multiple characters if I want to try different builds. But I also don't play RPGs to "roleplay" so our styles are probably different.

The Grandia games kind of have that. The weapons and magic get exp based on usage. Ie the more you use earth magic, the more spells you learn. But it has ATB/turn based combat and a linear story. Very different type of game than the Elders Scrolls.

Yes, but more so in the the way that I'll mostly make the same story / moral decisions. In terms of combat / skills, the older I get, the more easily bored I get with an OP jack-of-all-trades build, so nowadays I put more effort into sticking with a narrower build.
