I'm gonna repost my question because it kinda got buried in all the Trans talk, but...

Is this just a ban on what is being taught in health classes, or are we legit saying that a girl can get in trouble for privately asking a teacher if they can go use the bathroom to change their pad/tampon?

Its Florida, so I wouldnt put anything past them.

But I dont think either of my kids were taught this in elementary school, and Im in NY. I dont think they were taught any elementary health lessons other than wash your hands and eat lots of fruits and vegetables. There were no "body changing" lessons until middle school.
It's a ban on gathering to talk about it during class. Like workshops

So what exactly is the reasoning regarding banning talks about "periods" in elementary schools? I mean sure it can sound "yucky", but it's absolutely necessary.
It's a movement to make girls talking illegal.

The bill makes it a crime to talk about sexuality unless a student is between the 6th -12th grade. It also makes it easier for parents to challenge which books and topics about sexuality are being used when these classes are occurring. I guess the assumption is that knuckle draggers assume that teachers aren't smart enough to manage these discussions appropriately in the classroom so the state wants to interfere on parents behalf by using the law to make the classes more uniform across the state.

Is that definitely what it is, or is it just in regards to actual lesson plans?

The AP article give very little detail.

They actually taught us this during 5th grade which I think its an appropriate time and shouldnt be a big deal if they do it at 4th. Fucking republicans taking handmaids tale as a guide to destroy America.

We had our 1st SexEd class in 5th grade. Guys got the puberty talk and sex talk, girls had a different class and I don't actually know what they learned aside from the teacher stopping the video and explaining mentration in a "real world" sense.

Only reason I know that is they got out 20 minutes later even though both videos were the same length. We boys got 20 minute recess while they finished up.

His first post was moddable, and with his low karma and obvious trolling all throughout it was a bannable offense.

Link the article, if you dont mind.

I just dont know how something like that gets enforced.

Like, if a girl asks to use the restroom and privately says to the teacher I need to go change me pad/tampon the teacher can instead send them to the principal for being insubordinate?

I mean, this is VERY on brand for Florida, keeping laws vague enough to punish at their choosing.

Thank you.

Not that I trust them, AT ALL, but this is an important part the AP article omits:

At the committee meeting, Gantt asked whether teachers could face punishment if they discuss menstruation with younger students.

My concern is they won't feel safe to have those conversations with these little girls, she said.

McClain said that would not be the intent of the bill and that he is amenable to some changes to its language. The measure must be approved by another committee before it can reach the House floor; a similar bill is pending in the Senate.

Still sounds vague enough that they can get whomever they want in trouble just by a technicality.

Though it seems like it's more focused on teachers, that just means they're limiting (extremely important) education. This is going so backwards it's not even funny.

Agreed. The fact that it's an out and out BAN on the education, and not just doing what basically every other stat does and just introduce it at a later age is what makes this so bizarre

Since the specifics of the bill were in the other article, just my two cents/experience - I was in 5th grade in Minnesota when I had the first (very vague) sex ed class. Being male I'm not sure what was discussed in the girls class but I *do* remember being told about girls having a period. I was in Georgia for 7th grade and surprisingly the sex ed portion in gym also covered the topic.

Pretty sure the US has a standing policy of bombing the Hague if any member of the ICC steps foot on US soil and tries to take someone into custody.

Okay, now I can kind of see the logic why there would be some hesistancy. I disagree with it, but at least I can understand.

Anyone who relates a Menstrual Cycle strictly to sex is a moron.

It's a biological thing that occurs in 99.99999~% of females. It's not sexual. They're telling little girls to bleed in their chair because they can't tell an adult they're having an emergency.

What kind of fucked up misogynistic bullshit is this? They best ban anything related to an erection and give every boy with a clear boner a detention with the oldest, grossest teacher they have.

Fuckin' bullshit.

Source: A guy who was raised by his Mom, Aunt, and Grandmother with little to no male influence that wasn't a piece of shit.
Yeah? This is absolutely fucked up and some 19th century shit.

They usually use Orwellian language that in theory sounds neutral, even beneficial. In practice someone gets the shaft.

Remember the "Defense of Marriage Act?"

If there's an issue between 'teachers' and 'parents', it's usually teachers and a small, well-organized extremist group of parents.
