My dog (2002 - 2014) is still a semi-recurring figure in my dreams. It's great to see her again, but it hurts to wake up and remember that she's gone.

I wasn't honest with myself about her rapid decline. I assumed she had a few years left. Often, dreams will involve me either commenting on how much energy she has for a dog her age or else I'll realize in the dream what I didn't in real life: that she has a limited time left and I need to spend time with her.
