I miss hand drawn animation so much. Yeah CGI is way faster and easier, but there's no love and grit put into it. It's literally like that Spongebob episode where King Neptune cooks a hundred subpar krabby patties in the time it takes Spongebob to cook 1 amazing krabby patty with love >_>

Because through corporate A/B testing they learned that allocating more budget to better animation doesnt actually bring in more dollars especially on a brand name like dragon ball where people will tune in regardless of how shitty it is

I'm with you TC, the sub par animation in Super makes most of it unwatchable.

The Super movies and the Tournament of Power are the only parts worth watching.

Because Super is trash and they didn't want to use the budget on anything other than coke and blow.

To be fair your first example was from one of the TV movies that had better animation than the regular show at the time

The bigger problem with Super is that they're not even drawn right to begin with. Make them look right first and the animation can be forgiven to an extent.

Because cel animation is better than computer animation.

Also, how can anyone stand the dub voices and dub music? The video with Freeza ripping off Nail's arm is grating on my ears.

Because they realize that people are going to watch it anyways so they don't have to put much money into it

One of the reasons why I haven't cared for Super is the animation. It looks too cartoony and for kids. DBZ looked like a legit badass anime.

The Super movies are fantastic tho.

And they did finally step up with solid animation in the ToP.

The rest of the show is shame.

The ToP is one of the better DB arcs.

If you suffered through all that other crap you may as well watch the only good arc in the show. It's really good.

DBZ is much better than DBS, but you can find examples of Supers animation looking absolutely fantastic. I believe a big reason for the poor animation that DBS is kinda know for was due to time deadlines in early on in the show.

When something is a cash cow, why put that much effort into it when you can make maximum profit not even trying at all? Sounds like a smart business decision...at the cost of the consumer experience.

It literally defeats the purpose of training. Why even have Goku and Vegeta train with Whis if you can decided to make 17 SSB level just by fighting poachers that are humans? Or how about Gohan suddenly going toe to toe with SSB Goku despite being rusty and just recently got his power awakened form.

If I want to watch power levels are stupid, I d rather watch DB Heroes. At least it has quality animation.

Everything from the lighting, the veins popping out of Vegetas head and the spit flying out of his mouth to show how incredibly deranged he is, to the rocks around Goku turning into smaller and smaller pieces as he goes from kaioken 3 to 4 makes this clip absolutely perfect

Every episode Goku is on the brink of death from exhaustion and then next episode he's back to full power and it's revealed each episode is only 1 minute of time. Even for Dragonball that's stupid.

That's an exaggeration even though it does have Goku bounce back a few too many times.

Lets be real: anyone who thinks that Super's animation is any better than OPM's Season 2 literally could not tell the difference between animation and a puppet show. It's a joke, and while in some ways it gets overhated the sheer incompetence that went into it is just mind boggling considering its movie-like budget.

ToP was better than what came before, its animation is still some of the worst modern animation that wasn't made by some children getting to put their fridge drawings on the screen.

That isn't how the animation originally looked. It is using interpolation to get it to 60 fps (that's why it feels off).

I think the problem with Super is that there was no impact to the hits let alone any actual visual sign of damage Both Recoom and Vegeta get messed up during their fight on Namak

By the end of it Recoom has lost most of his armor, his teeth, his outfit, his hair and is bloodied up where as Vegeta was out cold after that piledriver and was out of the fight completely, we never see anything like this in the Super era even in the most brutal battle they had against Black and Zasmasu there was no blood, the impact of the hits didn't look damaging and even through Goku and Vegeta got stabbed through the chest by them at various points there's no sign of such a wound on their bodies after the fact despite no senzus

Dragonball Super is a product, not a story, Toriyama oddly enough can tell a story he just can't commit to building off that story, For anyone curious enough to wonder what the IP will look like after he dies look no further than Dragonball Heroes unexplained concepts and forms, stories that just jump into each other with no rhyme or reason and fights that amount to nothing than hitting the Gogeta/Vegito button and once that fails Goku under duress kamehameha's the problem away

Worlds Strongest & Tree of Might & Deadzone are fucking GOATd.

Altho DBS Broly movie is on par maybe a slight step below those but its got that spirited animation that Super lacks.

It is kind of amazing how animation has really gone downhill since CGI became common. This fight scene in End of Evangelion is one of the best animated fight scenes ever (and it may even use some CGI, I'm not sure). I love how you can tell the evangelions have actual weight to to them and are unwieldy. For the rebuild movies made 10-20 years later, the CGI is really jarring and obvious.

I cant imagine being up in arms about consistency... in Dragon Ball. Lmfao.

I remember hearing that the animators were under some extreme time crunch for alot of Super, which could explain why alot of the stuff (especially earlier on) looked bad + rushed. Not to mention they probably didn't put much budget + effort into the BoG + RoF rehash arcs since those were never going to look as good as the movies anyway, which could explain why those 2 arcs in the show had it worse than the new arcs.

Not looking like the original doesnt make it bad. Just different. I still vastly prefer DB & DBZ to DBS, but Ill give DBS its due when it is earned. The animation is great in certain parts, and horrible in others.
