Why? Because they are closing down permanently.

Christ theres so many roadblocks.

The banks block their cards from buying Eshop cards, theres ridiculous limitations on number of ICONS per SD card/HDD.

Nintendo only allows you to add $250 to your account at a time, so they had to add, buy, then add and buy again.

Yes he buys every single DLC and some DLC has to be bought by launching the game.

Some games need you to beat the first level or even the game to buy the DLC.

Christ what a hassle lol.

I wonder why. Seems like a stupid rule.

Apparently he handed over the HDD or whatever to some website dedicated to preservation and archiving the games. So in theory this should help drastically reduce the number of games that end up lost to history or else in that awkward situation where a collector has a copy but to preserve the value of their copy won't let anyone access it to make back ups of the files, not even if they could ensure the ROMs never become accessible for emulation.

Thats pretty nice of him to do, but most games are already, uh, archived so he didnt need to purchase them all

The games are technically archived through piracy already though.

Because piracy is immoral.
It's immoral to have entire libraries of digital only games vanish without any care for preservation and just leaving up to others to do so. So naturally pirating comes in to save the day like usual with any sort of gaming preservation for people who actually want to enjoy these experiences without jumping massive hurdles and increading expenses.

Still worth it just to ensure there's a single source that has the last versions and DLC just in case.

Besides it made for an interesting video and will pay for itself lol

Yeah it's more like an additional failsafe. He's probably never going away so he's gonna have a system that's guaranteed to have everything I guess. Also that's basically just a content machine he can pull at will

He's sorta been waning in relevance lately anyways. This is a pretty huge PR push, and people would probably like to see a 3DS or WiiU game completed next lol

Wild how you have to plan stuff like this months in advance due to the $250 a day limit.

Unfortunate that some of the games were taken down before he could buy them, since obviously no company's renewing their licenses for a dying shop.

On top of the fact that theres literally no actual reason to pull the store down. Its just a file server. You could have one server (combined) for 3DS, switch, wiiu, future consoles etc. no reason to take any of it offline ever until a couple of decades from now when the hardware is so antique it cant download a file with modern protocols
