the best example I can think of for games is guitar hero/rockband. it got popular then they started making like 2 every year. it oversaturated the market and it's largely a thing of the past.

for tv shows, probably the walking dead. it refused to end because of how popular it was and now it's horribly dragged.

music is a hard one, I need help.

Assassin's Creed.

the yearly release ended up working against the franchise, and while Origins was a good way to revitalize the series, each subsequent game adds a lot of "fluff" that isn't so fun.

hopefully Mirage is another step in the right direction, and what comes after it takes the right notes.

i pictured a single piece of media that was great but got so exposed that people eventually got tired of it. for me it's something like "last christmas".

not necessarily. it can also be something that got so popular that it morphed to meet the demands of a new crowd.

big bang theory got so popular it stopped having the nerdy/sciency jokes that the early seasons did and became Friends-lite.

animal crossing got so popular it ditched half the things that made it iconic for a sandbox parameter.

fire emblem also ditched it's gritty hardcore strategy blood for waifus and, I think you get the point

I think Metallica is the better answer. They got popular for being more speed/thrash metal and everyone loved them for it, and then they go and make The Black album which really changed their style and upset half the fan base.

okay, good on both ends. if Metallica abandoned their core audience with X album and in pursuit of popularity, then that sucks too. another prime example that I would have thought of is Taylor Swift who left behind country for pop.

of course there are other reasons popularity might ruin an artist. literally, in the case of Nirvana.

Simple Minds made three fantastic albums at the start of their career, then a couple decent ones, and then mostly boring ass U2 derivative shit after that

Whatever you think about their early work, they were at least putting effort into it. When they realized that the radio was going to overplay them no matter what that's when we got singles like Animals, Rockstar and of course Photograph.
