Over sad feelings. Not from laughing too hard.

Don't remember the last time I cried about anything.

I don't even necessarily police my emotions or stop myself from crying because of toxic masculinity (not consciously at least). I just... Don't feel strong sad emotions usually.

Yes, everyday.

A bunch from 2022 when my wife's father passed away, when my cousin passed away, when my wife child patient passed away, when my grandmother passed away.

Then for 2023 when I found out my wife has Stage 4 cancer.

I have actually.

Was driving my 11 month old daughter around in an effort to get her to fall asleep and made a pit stop to the old family business that my father started to kind of introduce her to it. My father died several years ago and I know how much time he spent keeping the business in order so I couldn't keep it together.

I find it so strange that most people regularly cry. I'm 39, and I've cried 4 times as an adult. I wonder what it would be like to have such strong emotions.

Recently, yes. Random crying spells that come and go. But since I've started seeing a psychiatrist and had medication changes I'm doing a lot better.

Depression really does suck. I've had some breakthroughs before and done better but it always seems to creep back in. Quitting alcohol has helped but I still crave it on occasion. More than I'd like to admit, really. Now that warmer weather is coming I plan on daily walks and have been in the early (very early) design phase of a board game. Working on the game helps a ton, as it's challenging mentally and keeps my mind off of other thoughts.

You could try some gratitude exercise, you can write 3 things that you're thankful for ever morning. It's surprising how much that helps. May want to consider talking to a professional, there are likely underlying factors that lead you to depend on alcohol.

I'm seeing a psychiatrist. I can barely afford that. My PCP has suggested therapy but the cheapest one I can find is about $150 per session with my insurance and I can't afford that (especially weekly or even bi-weekly).

Alcoholism runs in my family and I have no doubt I have the genes (unfortunately my siblings do, too). What I do possess is a strong will and I quit cold turkey back in November. Pretty stupid, really, as it's not a good idea to just stop immediately. I drank about 18-20 beers most days, plus around a half a fifth of liquor. Had shakes like crazy but made it through.

I've opened up to my wife some but I don't want to burden her. I'll definitely keep the gratitude thing in mind. Sounds like a great idea.

Not really close to him, I just got sad because I wasn't ready to be by myself. It's not forever, I'll be joining her in a few months after I wrap up some things.
