I was originally expecting to pay it off on the Saturday before last, but there was an unexpected fiasco with my tax return.
  • When I filed, I chose the option to have the tax return sent through direct deposit
  • The IRS mailed it instead
  • I asked the IRS why, and they said the bank rejected it
  • I asked the bank, and they said they didn't reject it.
  • Turns out that me not using the suffix on my name was the problem, but it has never been a problem until now. It's probably a combination of not having the exact name matching and the amount of the return.

So I got the check on March 4th and the bank wouldn't accept it for the same reason. I had to go back home and get my social security card. Once I showed them that, they accepted it and deposited it. The bank is holding the deposit until the 15th at 9am so they can fully verify it.

So as long as Bank of America does their thing on Wednesday, I have Thursday and Friday off. So I'm gonna go to the credit union at 9am on Thursday and slap the check on the table like a domino and tell them to run me my title.

I remember a few years ago, my mom would send me money every now and then through Western Union to help out or just to pay me back from me helping her out. First 3 or 4 times, no issue. Then the last time there was an issue because she didn't make it out to Jr. It had NEVER been a problem before. I was so caught off guard.

Similar thing happened when I was trying to transfer my car title to the state I moved in (moved a couple years beforehand but never fixed the title since the car wasn't even working at the moment). I think these holdups happened in the same year. I think the lady working the clerk office told me about a form I can get to say I am the person on the title even if it doesn't say Jr or something. Luckily it didn't take too long.

I have a 5-year loan on my car. I'm coming up on 3 years in June. I have enough in my chequing account that with my tax return, I can pay the entire thing off now. I think I'll just do that. Just waiting for the direct deposit to come in.

Yeah, I'm 3 years into a 5.5 year loan. I knew I was going to pay it off early, but I wasn't planning on buying a house or getting solar in 2021 when I bought the car in 2020. The solar tax credit will be more than enough to pay the car off.

Shit like this is why I didn't want to give my son my name even though my wife suggested the idea because she likes my name. Just causes too many mixups. As an insurance agent I see it all the time when accidents are assigned to the wrong person because a son and father have the same name.

I grew up away from my dad, and I had a lot of anger toward him when I was a kid. So when I was 16, I decided to just not use the suffix in my name for employment. As the years went on, I kept doing it, but I stopped thinking about it as much. So I never actually used my suffix at any job. It has just been a thing I've done ever since.

I'm working on getting my suffix added at my current job so there won't be such a hassle with next year's tax return.

I pretty much never use my suffix. I don't even think about it. I just checked my W2, and it does not have my suffix.
