The trailer for it made a big deal out of saying it's unlimited time and plays, which is how all demos should be >_>

this will perhaps abate me being irritated about fatal frame 4 being broken on ps4 for a time today

So is it the first village part or the village with a 1v1 chainsaw man?

The shotgun turns into a regenerator when you grab it.

Really enjoyed it, and all the updates/changes made a huge difference to the village fight. I was honestly expecting to follow the same beats that I have been since 2005 and breeze through.

After chainsaw man, ends after bingo. I liked it on the first run thru. I didn't get to try a chainsaw Parry because my knife was gone by the time I got to it. It seems like there are a lot more enemies during that part, which is great

First impressions-

Game is very pretty except for the usual weird RE Engine faces. Was playing on ps4 and the framerate was a little unstable but not terrible

I dunno if it was the aformentioned framerate problems but I was having a hell of a time aiming with the default setup. My second time through I messed with the aiming settings and it was much better.

Ganados are much more aggressive in this than the original. In the original Ganados became more reluctant to attack you when they were offscreen although they still did do it if you were just fucking around. In this like 90% of the hits I took were things I couldn't see. Couple that was the much larger groups and it makes them WAY more threatening when there's more than a couple. Like, to the point where fighting them seemed pretty pointless usually because if they were coming from the front there were too many and even if I caught a straggler I had a big crowd chasing me. That could be good or bad, but I tend to think it makes the core of the combat a bit worse

The ganados have like a super crimson head mode now that is kind of odd. They take a lot of punishment and do a lot of damage if they get up in that state. You can prevent it by stabbing them while on the ground but I think that needs to be flagged WAY more obviously because I didn't realize what was going on at all the first playthrough

Maybe the most surprising thing to me was how well they handled hitboxes. I was expecting the game to be a really obnoxious nightmare of things magnetically grabbing you and a few attacks do have canned animations that seem to just kind of suck you in, which was a big problem with the RE2 and 3 remakes. In this I was regularly dodging stuff by inches, and while messing around on roofs I was seeing swings pass just over my head. Gotta give them credit for that because it looked and felt really cool

Leon is nimble AF in the game. He feels like he on that OG glitch sometimes, plus a smaller, reasonable hitbox

I love that the movement speed is so much faster. I did get hit multiple times though because I kept pressing the A button to do a quick turn out of habit.

I do like that the enemies are more aggressive. It was a necessity to balance out that you're more nimble and can move and shoot at the same time.

Like marcywarcy said, the enemies really are much more aggressive. They run after you and hit you in the back. It was just so easy to do headshots and then do the action button and knock everyone back in the original. You could do it for days. But now, they surround you easily and attack you from behind much faster. You really have to keep moving. Luckily they kept the layout of the village the same so i knew how to run around, otherwise i think i'd have gotten game over.

It was ok

It felt a lot more like a whole village of people. Its amazing what they have done with the game

Also apparently there's a hard mode that just randomly unlocks at some point when you start a new run

I'm getting a feel for this; definitely picking it up. Played RE4 on the Switch and loved it.

Seeing as RE4 is on my top five all time game list, I'm hyped!

My thoughts: it's a good remake so far. Graphics are great and the game feels good. The default stick options didn't feel good, and I had to mess around with them to get them right. Specifically the aim acceleration. I thought turning it all off would get the effect I wanted (nice responsive Call of Duty aiming), but it actually did the opposite. Sliding all the way to the right did what I needed though. Isn't that backward? Shouldn't all the way left be no acceleration so super snappy? Whatever.

A few things stood out to me as worrying, though.

I dislike the modern style reticle. I prefer the red laser beam.

While the controls are generally good, there were some moments where I felt like I lost control of Leon. Especially when doing the quick turn. I would do that strategy where you run down a long distance, then quick turn, stand your ground and fire at charging enemies. Only when I quick turned, Leon turns and then lunges forward, getting me into trouble. It just feels different. Off from the original.

Also, there seems like a lot less money laying around, which might pose a problem, combined with the fact that I saw the pistol only had a couple upgrade ticks for each stat. One of the funnest things about OG RE4 was collecting all that sweet money and doing a lot of gun upgrading. Later games like Village I feel really downgraded this aspect. I hope this remake still has the big focus on the guns and upgrading them a lot through the game. I like many upgrades often, not super spread out and rare.

I'm glad they left in the cheesiness.

This all sounds awesome. Between sleep and work in a bit, I still havent had time to play around with it, yet.

Is there some sort of unlock for the main game for beating this demo? I'm still sort of focused on wo long for now so I want to completely finish this up. If there isn't anything to unlock then I rather save my RE4 excitement for the actual game releasing towards the end of the month.

By default Leon keeps running until you stop moving so that's a side effect of that. Apparently there's an option to turn the run button from toggle to hold, that may fix that issue.

If you examine the pistol, it says its perk is its compatible with a laser sight.

This is some SS Anne Truck Mew kinda shit, but the TMP is in this demo.

Once you can open your inventory, discard everything (immediately after the cutscene with the first Ganado where you get the key).
Do not pick anything up.
Get all the way to the village and the Well by the cow will be open. Go down and the TMP is inside a blue chest with ammo next to it.

I just saw a YouTube thumbnail for that literally 2 mins ago. Wonder how much other stuff is hidden.

Man, I finally played it myself and I got my ass whooped. I think replaying RE4 a bit might have been a mistake because I tried to play it the same way and the Ganados are just way too aggressive for that.
