The issue with bringing in "new faces" to the big screen from a selection of unused comic characters is the studio has to basically start from square one again to build up hype. Avengers, X-Men, and Spider-Man were easy because they already had established familiarity with a decent portion of the public who didn't even read comics. Marvel had splashed those icons around for years as kids toys, cartoons, and product logos. Fantastic Four was an example of not having enough familiarity to keep movie hype (comic junkies knew who they were...non-comic enthusiasts, not so much). Some movie goers didn't even realize the FF had any association with Marvel until they saw logo before the movies. Stuff like The Eternals would be another glaring example of a lesser known series which had issues in rooting popular recognition. One glaring fault was its comparative lack of "mortal trial against adversity" element because most of the chosen cast were like demigods. It was like the Avengers, except everyone was a version of Captain Marvel or Thor. Many other movies have tried this formula with box office success, but most didn't get sequels because the plots were effectively wrapped up...because all the heroes were Captain Marvels. There's a ton of characters Disney could pull to the MCU, but they have to be careful with trying to strike oil with the lesser knowns. They can't all be surprisingly well received like Guardians of the Galaxy. --- Bite me like one of your French rolls. https://tryimg.com/u/2020/08/11/1tZ1gcH.jpg ... Copied to Clipboard!

This seems like fhe opposite of him just saying they're gonna slow down on throwing so much at us. Iger has been going a bit Zaslav since he has to save $5.5 billion compared to WB's $3 billion. This is dumb regardless. We have a very good amount of people to work with already. Let's focus on that. I don't want to wait 5-6 years for sequels like BP2 and GotG 3. Even without the pandemic delays, they were still scheduled for 2022. I don't see the point of that many, especially with the F4 and X-Men crew on the way. --- Nani?!? ... Copied to Clipboard!

You ask someone on the street 15 years ago who any of these characters are they could maybe name Hulk and Captain America. Being in the MCU is effectively a stamp of quality. Most people still don't know who these characters are but they put butts in seats because people know, more or less, what they're getting. Prior knowledge has had nothing to do with reviews or money so far. --- https://i.imgur.com/AUXKMK4.jpg ... Copied to Clipboard!

I think it would be kind of interesting if they introduced a new superhero in a movie. Not in his or her own film, but as a supporting character. Like, you get a film with Dr. Strange, Ant-Man, Shang-Chi, Black Panther 2, and... Who's this orange guy? Is that Adam Warlock? No. Who is this guy? Let buzz circulate about the new character, don't explain the origin of their powers, and then give them an origin story in a comic months after their film debut. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Gobstoppers12 posted... To me it would be like bringing Charlie Sheen back into the spotlight. He had that famous blowup a while back, and people have barely talked about him since, except to make fun of him for it. I'd say the difference with that is that, generally, Charlie Sheen hasn't really been seen as a very talented actor. It's an unfair view (he is good at comedy, and has done good work in movies like Platoon), but for most people, his notoriety outweighs his talent. On the other hand, I feel like most people recognized that RDJ was pretty talented, even during the drugged out years. --- "You need a hobby.
