I feel like covering up the bad behavior of others isn't really being an "asshole", it's just duplicitous but such people still get spoken of in negative terms upon their passing.

Besides, you can't take back what you did in the past and sometimes the ramifications of your actions won't be clear until long after you realized they might have a negative impact.
