Did it though? It had great pacing till Justin Longs introduction and then the flashback both slowed it down a lot....

The first 3rd is really good. But they revealed something too soon followed by longs weird introduction thats almost comedic, then a flashback thats meh ending in a very generic horror movie end....

And all throughout this movie they have many opportunities to just leave with very bad reasons why they dont. And you had to write the cops extremely stupid too.

It's supposed to be comedic. Long's entire arc is a drastic tonal shift that is done really well imo. The entire second half of the movie was completely unexpected if you watched the trailers leading up to the movie. It was a cool surprise.

Yep, it almost has the same structure as Psycho.

Ok but even then its not that funny. Lets stop the movie and introduce him in a different tone and then explain him into the story. It takes a while and completely stops the momentum. Then we need a flashback to explain someones backstory slowing the movie down more.

When all this is done we still have little reason not to just leave. Like both long and the lead could just leave a few times. The lead was like even warned by someone to leave and she brushes it off.

And one part seems to suggest that this massive inbred monster was sneaking around while they were asleep. She never sneaks again nor had any reason to not attack/abduct them while they were asleep. That or i didnt get it.
