I overall enjoyed it. I didn't bother with motion controls since I played the HD version (what an exhausting experience motion controls must have been considering how long it is) so combat was unique and the controls were overall fine even if it did feel like I was playing on an emulator instead of a native experience.

I liked the gameplay variety overall. Constant new ideas are thrown at you.

But it's the pacing. By god the pacing. When you get to the point that you now have to go to the same overworld areas for the third time it just felt too much. I know Nintendo games often go for this trope but it just felt so egregious here for some reason. I think it's the way the story plays it out. Like it feels like you're going to push the story forward only to be told "Actually you have a long ass task of you ahead before you can come back to this"

A lot of felt like stuff that would be optional in other games too.

It's fascinating how it's the precursor to Breath of the Wild. In a way the two games are polar opposites when it comes to the Zelda formula. Almost all of this game is a dungeon. There's no room for experimentation. All of it is linear and outside of NPC quests it's all forced on you.

I do think the story is the best of the games though. Ghirahim was a weirdo they clearly had fun animating and Demise was a neat looking final boss.

It would be cool seeing a game where Ganondorf is a normal guy who ends up tying his destiny to Demise for all eternity like what happens to Link and Zelda in this game. Was kinda hoping Groose would be a bit of a twist there heh

I recently played the HD Switch version and it wasn't as bad as I remembered.

Then again, having a more traditional control scheme helped.
