Oh yeah youre right because you guys clearly are very level headed. He writes however many books he has written and helped make however much media that you all consume, and that apparently gets him zero respect until he releases his next book. Makes sense.

Because Sanderson is actually writing. Martin isn't.

Oh and I use to Martin breaks for years. I honestly believed book six would be released before the TV series reached that point. Even with the slow pace he was going that seemed believable. Yet now the series is done for years and that book is no where near complete.

I do respect Martin for the books he wrote and TV shows he worked on. I will also make fun of him and joke about his laziness. These are not exclusive.

Sanderson has time blocks set aside for writing. He treats it like a regular job.

Why are we talking about Sanderson? What about Pirateaba who writes The Wandering Inn? They write multiple chapters a week, and they're longer than you'd expect.

Like Sanderson since 2005, has written 5 million, 42 thousand, and 82 words.
The Wandering Inn (which has been going since 2016), itself has 11 million, 197 thousand and 590 words, and that grows weekly.

If he stated it, then the Song of Ice and Fire brand would take a nosedive, and House of Dragons would have never been greenlit, and the various other series would have been cancelled.
If he wishes to keep making money from ASOIAF, he'll need to make sure even if he isn't, that he appears to keep writing.

if the brand isn't strong enough to get attention without fake hope of GRRM finishing the books, then imo, it should go it's natural course.

but again what i'm focusing on is the whole doesn't owe people anything reasoning. you can not have a problem with people having a problem with GRRM not finishing the books when he's stringing people along like he's still going to finish the books someday.

Maybe 2011 was cursed. Patrick Rothfuss released The Wise Man's Fear and we are still waiting for the last book of the trilogy.

I know Brandon Sanderson gets ragged on, but bless him for finishing the Wheel of Time series after Robert Jordan died so fans had closure to the series.

As for Martin, I won't pick up his next book, I'd have to reread the entire series, and too much time has passed for me to care to.

I do think it's unfair to compare every author to each other. People are different.

Stephen King is a workaholic who has been cranking out 2 or 3 books a year for decades. And thats good for him, he will never stop. But not everyone needs to be like that.

What? This guy is saying he doesnt respect George r r Martin for not finishing his books.. that he wrote. Theyre his books. He doesnt have to finish them, he doesnt owe anybody anything. And to say that he doesnt deserve respect because of that is absurd.
He DOES have to finish them, he is under contract by a publisher to finish them, he was required to finish them years ago.

Did he really want to drop the Dark Tower series? I know he almost died so his priority was to finish them and the last 3 books were pretty rushed but I didnt know he wanted to quit. I also read them after they were finished though so I didnt follow it.

I have far more respect for Patrick Rothfuss.

Why? He promised to release two chapters of the third book if charity goals were met and did absolutely nothing once the goals were met. He also charges that charity an exorbitant amount of money to have their charity stream at a building that he owns (or rather, that his LLC Elodin Holdings owns). By all appearances, he's pretty much a con man at this point.

BTW, the wait for Doors of Stone has been longer than the wait for Winds of Winter.
