And since Mexico is a dangerous country that's rife with cartels I was asking if a resort without guards is preferable to being at a resort with guards, especially since Cartels have been known to overrun resorts and commit violence to guests. Wouldn't you want guards present to prevent that from occurring?

Legalize drugs, and the cartels are basically reduced to smuggling Kinder eggs and bologna. Maybe also the occasional haggis.

It's a Libertarian take because it ignores the idea that a cartel could do literally any other crime to make money while being in a topic about people being kidnapped. It takes a complete obliviousness to end up that limp to the situation. That you could end up in a topic in which people were murdered and think "but if they would just legalize drugs these cartels would just go away."

It's sad that as a kid camping in Big Bend national park was a big deal to me...I remember our tent was 100ft from the Rio Grande and I walked into Mexico without getting my knees wet.

Now I wouldn't even spend a day there.
Im actually going on a trip there in a couple weeks, is that area particularly dangerous?

The bolded part is where you're wrong. As stated, there's plenty of areas you can go in Mexico without having to worry about cartels or crime. So, as I said initially, don't go to places that require guards, period.

Do you not worry about crime in those places because there are guards there? Cause I'm looking, and many resorts boast about the presence of guards as security feature. Hell, the National Guard is even patrolling the beaches in Tulum now just to ensure tourists are safe. It doesn't make any sense for a place to appear safer if there are no guards there and I'm pretty sure you don't know what you're talking about since you refused to elaborate on your point at every opportunity. Thanks for trying though I guess.

Alright, legalize drugs, and then go ham on the cartels.
Taking them out while drugs are still illegal would just grossly bloat the scope of drug-related crimes when the supply is gutted and prices explode. Sure, we may severely cut down the amount of fentanyl being used to cut everything, but that just creates an opportunity for shit like Krokodil to move in.

We've had well over sixty years of demand-side enforcement being entirely ineffectual - and that was after already seeing demand-side enforcement being entirely ineffectual during Prohibition forty years before that.
All supply-side enforcement accomplishes is making demand more ravenous, with new supply quickly emerging.

All I did was search for guards in Mexico and found this article:
https://thecancunsun.com/national-guard-troops-deployed-to-tulum-beaches-to-protect-tourists/

The article was written 2 weeks ago so the presence of guards on the beaches is fairly new. So now you have a little bit more to expect when you go to enjoy the beach this year.

Look, I'm not interested in doing this pointless sealion thing. Lolife brought up safe areas, I picked a safe area. I'm not chasing down an ever expanding goal post because you want me to check crime rates for every single state in Mexico. If you're interested in that conversation then do your own homework and we can talk about it.

The US won't seriously do anything about Mexican cartels unless it's election time and even then it's 98% posturing. Some operations don't even originate from the Mexican public, but migrate over from other parts of the world because they heard about that revolving door down south. The idea is the US doesn't bother effectively dealing with threats on their own borders, they're probably not going to do much to "tourists" either.

You go soft on one, you're soft on them all.

Is it common for the cartels to harm foreign tourists? You'd think they'd avoid doing so in fear of this heat it'd cause them like now.

Our goverment would probably really love a excuse to go to war on cartels.
