All I can say is what the fuck man...
What a ride. Keeps you guessing and when it goes, it goes HARD. I'm no film buff, but the sound design is fantastic and almost drove the latter part of the movie. Highly recommend.

Available as free trial on Screambox. Definitely worth a sub and cancel, imo.

I personally didn't care for it. Ye the last 30 minutes or so goes hard but the problem is that for more than half the movie nothing really happens at all. Any time something interesting happens in this movie and I started to think we'd finally be moving in a good direction, the guy instead decides to film more blood on the ground with a dollar store flashlight. I appreciated the cosmic-horror vibe of it but man, I really wasn't a fan.

Not much happens with the plot, but it's all setting the tone. I like that because when the action hits, nothing else needs to be explained, and you're along the character is the chaos. Usually the audience knows things the characters don't, and it's that anticipation is what creates tension. The experience is the connection, in this case.

I suppose I can understand that viewpoint but it doesn't change the fact that even when the action hits, you can't see a damn thing or even tell what is happening lol.

Part of that is a necessity of doing cosmic horror on a shoestring budget, the other part is that it's disorienting, lending to the chaos. That's why the sound design drives the latter part, which I thought was a really cool approach. I get that it's non-traditional narrative can't put some off, for sure.

Looks interesting. Have been intending to watch it. Supposed to have some pretty scary scenes.

I read a synopsis and it even sounds scary, exactly like the kind of nightmare scenarios you'd have as a kid.

Just started it up

I felt too tired to watch it yesterday

It sounds so good damn. I'm using a pair of headphones too. Most movies sound dull on them

i enjoyed it. i've seen a fair bit of found footage stuff and this is one of the few that did not bore me during the 1st half. I kept getting caught off guard whenever some creepy or very loud noises would occur every now and then in the background lol. Also liked how voices would get manipulated a bit.

I was already a bit disturbed going into the 2nd half and it just ramps up from there.. gave me an adrenaline rush and tbh I had to pause the movie a few times because it was too much for me to take in.. part of the reason why it took me 4 hours to finish it. the other part being that I had to give my ears a rest. they started to hurt because the sounds get soo fucking loud sometimes that it starts clipping. i understand it was intended for maximum chaos but it fucked my ears up tbh. i actually feel a bit lightheaded now.

some of the transition stuff was pretty cool imo and I did not expect that. also i only have a vague idea of what all occurred. it is like a nightmare where some things don't make total sense.

I'm thinking it's a comment on identity.
The brothers had a dead father that used to hike and the blonde girls mother is dead and used to sing her that song. The guy he sees with the hatchet is him. He rips his skin off, cuts of his genitals, and disembowels himself. All things that point to question who or what you are. Not sure how the blood/current/outwaters or murder factors in. Maybe just blood is simply representative of our ancestry and the murder is touching on how we all take from each other. Dunno.

It didn't do it for me.

The characters are not interesting, and it's too long. AT LEAST 20 minutes could have been shaven off of this thing easily.

The last 40 minutes is a guy wandering around in pitch black, and it gets tedious.

There was some good stuff, though. I'll give it a 6 out of 10.

Yeah, if you're watching just for what happens in the movie, it's pretty meh. How and why things were done is what made me really enjoy it.

The lack of clear picture throughout the 2nd half of the film made it scarier imo. Made my imagination run wild especially with help from the audio. Like the fleshy sounds and screaming was disturbing af to me!

Also I woke up from a nightmare that was influenced by this movie. I did not want to go back to sleep so I've been up for the past 2 or 3 hours now. Passed out around 5 pm and woke up around 1130 pm. Felt so scared and had to turn my light on lol

bro i still can't believe this movie influenced my dreams.

so freaky. i dreamt that a malformed version of the blonde chick from the movie was trying to kill me. was in the mojave desert too. some other stuff went down but i don't remember it too well now. i woke up right before being killed but passed out about 10 mins later and the dream continued so I woke up again and stayed awake lol.

also the movie ramped up my tinnitus like crazy which lasted about an entire day. i need to moderate my volume next time i watch a movie man. feels more immersive that way tho.

Crazy.
They did use a lot of dream logic in the movie, so that could be part of it.
