Fantastic episode. Really nailed the key scenes.

It's a weird situation where it was excellent, but I wanted it to be longer. Definitely left me wanting more. Idk if I'll feel that way if I watch it again since I'll see it with the finale on repeated views.

Wish it was longer like the game. I would have liked the town looking for Ellie and the people talking about taking out David because of his actions. Other than that all the key scenes were there and it was good.

Really good episode. Better than most in the season. Wish there was the initial infected section so David had more reason to think Ellie was worth trying to have.

This was probably the most 1:1 episode of the season, I'm surprised.

The slight weak spot for me was David's actor, but Nolan North did such a good job in the game I think I'm just being harsh

one thing I prefer about the series over the game is that we get to see more people on screen, so when you have a character say something about being a part of a community, you get to see that.

also, I think making David a preacher was a nice change. it added a more subtle darkness to his character.

Was I the only one who had zero sympathy for David's "flock"? David claimed that only a few people knew what they were eating, but there were plenty of context clues that suggested otherwise. Almost everyone wanted to kill Ellie even though she hadn't done a thing to any of them. When she and Joel ran into the group's hunting/gathering party, there was no dialog---they attacked immediately with lethal force.

I was frankly sorry Joel didn't get more of them.

I dont remember this part of the game but the part where he tried to rape her while the building was literally burning down around them was too insanely over the top for me, way too much of mustache twirling villain heel turn imo

Why? She's literally flawless as Ellie. This episode proved that she has the range to play Ellie in seasons 2 and 3.

Also, the real-life actress is 19, so she's already the age that Ellie is in Last of Us Part 2. Makes perfect sense.

They turned down Maise Williams (Arya Stark) playing Ellie because she was too old to last multiple seasons.

Makes sense with the way he slaps the girl in the show.

Him being a preacher and a teacher means he's in two positions of power over young people.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

I suppose that's true. But I still feel that an uncharitable interpretation fits more to what we see the group actually doing. Like with Kathleen's group, there is no forward thinking and no real compassion or perspective. They are hurting so they want other people to be hurt as well.

Good episode as usual, and Ellie and David's talk at the start was done really well. Troy Baker did a good job, for sure.

Though, I think the David "boss fight" was noticeably weaker in the show. It didn't really have the suspense and building tension like the game did (prob because since it's playable, it felt like "you" were the one trying to hide from him as well), and I think they could've pushed things a bit more here and there, but still good overall.

Can't wait for the finale.

EDIT: Also, why are ya'll still responding to Dragon56? He's just a troll who posts the same smooth-brain chucklefuck take every week.

Better episode than last week's but still, nothing has even come close to Bill's episode. Talk about blowing your load early lol

Something that has bothered me since the beginning of the show, and it's admittedly a 'nitpick' in a way, but the scale and lapse of time just seems absolutely off. You especially feel it in this episode. These fuckers are traveling dozens of miles on foot within a very short time frame. Not a big deal, just feels like the opposite of other zombie media that really emphasizes the toll of travel in the apocalypse.

Yeah, I noticed that.

At the start, when David had Troy Baker go get medicine, he said it was like a 4 mile walk back and it took him a couple hours to get back. But later, after David carries Ellie back and she regains consciousness, it cuts to his goons and they're still looking for Joel. I know 4 miles shouldn't take super long to walk, but it still felt off, even if his goons had been searching for at least a couple hours straight. And then Joel is able to tie people up, interrogate them, and limp over to David's all while Ellie's stuff is taking place.

I guess it balances out with the previous episodes going out of their way to showcase Joel and Ellie go weeks/months before reaching the next plot point.

Im going to blow your mind friend. Just because a scene comes after another in a show or film, doesnt mean its occurring after the scene that came before it chronologically, it just makes more sense for the scene to come after the previous scene narratively.

Come on guys, were all adults, we dont need pointless scenes of people walking commenting man its been three hours of walkin here for us to get time has passed right?

Obviously. But the show doesn't express the passage of time nor the scale of its world well. Like we've been in 5 or 6 states now on one or two tanks of gas in a truck, a horse Ellie knows how to ride somehow and a shit ton of walking. I don't even know how long it's been since Ellie and Joel first met.

Feels very video gamey in that sense.
