If you hit my car while lane splitting I don't care what the law says, you're paying for damages.

Pretty sure the law says if you hit a car while lane splitting youre at fault. Unless you have proof of otherwise?

Essentially if it's legal and you hit someone because they change lanes while you're splitting, they're at fault.

Both, legal lane splitting and responsibility for damages are possible at the same time.

No no you don't get me. I don't care if I pull out with you right behind me, if you aren't in a lane you're paying for damages. I'll take your damn bike if I have to, it's irresponsible.

its more irresponsible to have no awareness of your surroundings. How about you check before you move like a normal person?

I do. I check the lane next to me. Not the lane behind me or the line. Because that's all I should have to check.

If you're on the line when I hit you or you hit me, you're responsible.

If lanesplitting is legal then you need to keep a look out for lanesplitters while you're changing lanes. There are signs everywhere telling you that you should do so.

Nope. Even if it's legal I'm not going to do extra for people being unsafe, nor will I take responsibility for their unsafe decisions.

The onus on controlling what you strike with your vehicle is entirely on you. Nobody else outside of your vehicle bears the responsibility because you're deliberately reckless.

And I know you're not being serious. You're craven and you'd never hit someone with your car if the opportunity presented itself. You'd stew and seethe if someone was splitting a lane beside you and you'd do nothing about it but whine to CE.

Lane splitting is legal in only a few states. TC should just move.

ETA: Apparently it is now legal in only ONE state. TC, just move out of California - there are plenty of other states for you to choose.

Nope. If they're on the line they're at fault.

To clarify though, I'd NEVER intentionally hit them, or support someone who does.

It's not legal here in Oregon but they're trying. We get a lot who do it because they come uo from California which is apparently the only state it's legal now?

Nope. They pay. I look at the lane next to me to make sure I'm not cutting off responsible drivers, not on the line or behind me to look for irresponsible ones.

you need to look behind you when you switch lanes. Do you know what a shoulder check is? Whoever taught you to drive should be fired. You are a wreckless driver and youre going to kill someone

A shoulder check is looking in the lane next to you. I still look in spots behind me to make sure I'm not cutting anyone off, but thats not the same as checking on the line or behind me for lane splitters.

The only unsafe decision is being made by you, the guy that refuses to pay attention to his surroundings in a vehicle.

You sound like a terrible driver and the type of person that thinks they are the only ones on the road that matter. Let me guess, you also refuse to get out of the passing lane for cars that are trying to go fast than you?

You guys know the difference between "lane splitting" and "lane filtering" right? Lane filtering is legal in many states, unfortunately not mine, but people still do it. It's safe if done properly and helps ease congestion.

People watch Squids doing 100+mph in between cars on YouTube and assume that's the norm for some reason.

Yes ty. I still don't like filtering either but it's nowhere near as bad as, say, splitting on a highway
