Trying to do this, but it feels pretty hard for someone who's never really done it before. I've got one row filled, but the others seems all very ambiguous. Thought it might be fun to play a game where I can practice it.

I'll take a look at those. Might be a good idea to get a 3DS picross one, since eShop is going down. As an aside, I've got this so far.

Also, you already made a mistake in your original picture. There is supposed to be a red spot in the middle of the center line to denote 4 4 instead of 9.

If you have platinum coins from doing Switch online missions, you can use a few to buy Zelda Twilight Princess Picross. It has tutorials, three modes, and doesn't have shitty time gating like Pokemon Picross. Of course, if you have Switch online, then you already have access to Mario Picross for SNES. But that doesn't have training or Mega Picross puzzles as far as I know. And a lot of the text is in Japanese.

Puzzle 22: Caterpillar

Standard Sudoku Rules: Numbers 1-9 in every ROW, COLUMN and Box.
Japanese Sum Rules: The squares outside the grid indicate the order of runs of contiguous cells found in that row or column that must be shaded the colour of the clue. The number in the clue indicates the sum of the cells in the run. There must be an unshaded cell between runs of the same colour, though there is no need between runs of differing colours. All runs are given. Colours used in this puzzle are red, yellow, and green

Bit of a trickier one today.

Feel free to post your solved puzzles (please mark with spoilers tag) and include your time as well.

Also if you get stuck feel free to ask queries as well and use spoiler tag appropriately.

I counted two possibilities, but I'll look again. It was where I started though.

I was super confused for a while. I don't know if I can explain it well though.

Essentially, a number means there are that many boxes filled in, in a row. When there are multiple numbers, it means the same thing, but the groups of boxes have to have at least one space between them. Something like 1 6 3 means that the 6 group has to be between the 1 and 3 group, but the direction can be either way. For instance:

1X666666X333 and 333X666666X1 are both valid. Now imagine those are overlayed with each other, and they match the length of the row they're on.
1X666666X333
333X666666X1

In this case, you could fill in the box with any one that has a number on both, because that has to be filled no matter which direction the groups are in, and you can use that information to solve other rows/columns. One of the main strategies is to start with the really big number, because they will pretty much always have some overlap.

As an aside, the example I gave is if they fit the box perfectly, but it can work to a point if the row was longer, but you have to do a lot more checking to see if they have to overlap, instead of simply maybe doing so.

actually, looking at the previous one I did, maybe it cant be in reverse order, and has to be left to right and up to down? Thatd make it easier. That wasnt my understanding of the rules, but I couldve been wrong.

So I messed up again, but I realized just how messed up how two adjacent columns were considering the few 'certain' rows and columns, so instead of restarting, I just tried to work out a pattern that was most likely to be correct based on everything else I had. Will see if it holds up.

Pokemon Picross on the 3DS

This is what got me started on it.

Only complaint is the reliance on using abilities if you want to beat the larger puzzles within the time limit. Then again, it's the fun of having a bunch of Pokemon and their abilities to choose from that makes the game stand out from standard Picross.
