I'm just speaking of what I saw in Ho Chi Minh City. I did see a couple obscure taco places and they weren't really busy and didn't look authentic. They had weird shit like shrimp and squid in the tacos and real Mexican tacos generally don't have that.

I dont know Ho Chi Minh as well as Hanoi, but Id imagine its down to the areas you visited. If you go to the places where all the expats live, youll find plenty of tacos. In the places where all the natives live, not so much, and what you do find will be their spin on it rather than what were more familiar with in the west.

Do they speak French?
I think some do. I heard some calling people woman in French. But the universal language is definitely English. All the tours are in English, and when they talk to white Europeans it's always in English.

The only Vietnamese phrase I learned to say was "I love you". That's because my friend kept telling me to say it to random girls. I really didn't even need to know that.

One thing I've learned over the years, is if you're not fluent in a language, don't even attempt it. Because people will roll with your little phrase thinking you know what tf they're saying.

I mean just play totally dumb. Don't say a single thing in their language. This is especially true among Hispanics. They'll legit try to clown you and speak all kinds of Spanish if you say the slightest things in the language.

Thats bad advice if youre trying to learn.

This is very true.

Also, people really do appreciate it if you try to speak their language. You wouldn't believe the deals I used to get when buying electronics at the Yongsan electronics market in Seoul just because I could speak Korean (badly).

I remember getting my PS2 and 3 chipped to play pirated video games back in the day... and I got both done for free because I asked in Korean; provided I bought 20 pirated games.

Which sold for 4 dollars a piece.

They dont. Even in the large cities, when youre not at a tourist attraction/tour, in a hotel or in one of the main expat areas, the majority speak little to no English. This is even more true in rural areas.

Yeah, theres different tiers of prices for a lot of things here.

If youre a foreigner who doesnt attempt Vietnamese, you pay the highest price. You pay a bit less if you attempt it. Less still if you can actually do it properly. The lowest prices go to the locals.

I didnt answer that initially because its such a crude question.

If youre a white man, your dating prospects are great over here.

I had a date the day I landed and I had several others lined up by the end of that day which I didnt end up going to because the first one went very well.
