It was for an audition at a local club. The owner invited me on to "work on projecting confidence," which I don't think I really did.

This set is my material from the last few months and I'm sort of over it. That said, I cared about this performance quite a bit and while I don't think it sucked I also don't think it pops in the way I want if I'm going to use this video as tape for bookers. I needed a good 5+ minute tape and it's ok but I don't think it'll stand out.

Normally I go slower but I felt a bit rushed. This was supposed to be a 7-minute set and I could have taken a bit more time to get comfortable on stage and let my pauses fill in more. I sort of got caught between deadpan (which is my usual approach) and trying to win the audience. The guy before me majorly bombed with some really racist material and it was uncomfortable in the room when I went onstage, so I tried to open with a friendlier approach than normal. I also cracked a bit early on but I did better later in the set.

I'd give it a C+/B- for what I was trying to do. Some of the jokes worked but I had a nervous energy throughout. I'm bummed because everyone says that they like me and my jokes but that my energy is nervous and sometimes stiff. I've been doing this almost every night for over a year now and I thought I'd be further and I can't seem to shake the nervousness.

This is me writing my thoughts out but any type of feedback is welcome.

I think it's really good man. Not hilarious, but definitely funny. The confidence will come when you further your material. I agree c+/B-. The playing with the microphone stand shows nervousness, I would just sit on a stool or just stop playing with it. I would record all of your stand ups and study the parts that hit and work off of those. You have a ton more balls than me man. People say I should do stand up all the time, but I could never do what you did. Really nice job

That's the thing for me. I couldn't get up there like that. I'm sweating just thinking about it. Or maybe it's hotter today. I don't know. Or the fat thing. Come to think of it, I should lose some weight. But then were back to the sweating issue. It's a catch 22 situation. That bastard number 22!

I liked it, you got my attention and I like your style, but yeh if there had been more confidence in there that kinda humor would hit harder, you felt most confident in the beginning ans at the with the slut phase jokes. And some parts felt rushed especially the final joke.

Overall I felt you drew me in and I found it funny and somewhat relatable (Inhave strabimus where my left eye can wander outward, had surgery once). With more confidence it will deliver even better, keep it up, Id watch it.

I didn't really connect with the jokes, I def smiled at a few, but I'm not going to really criticize you for it. Not all comedy is for everyone, not all jokes land with everyone, etc. It takes balls to get up there and your voice at least seemed confident at a lot of parts, so kudos to you.

The main critique I'll give you is the swaying back and forth through most of the video was really distracting. I'd definitely work on your confidence as others have said, especially through your body language.

I agree, I definitely noticed it right away and I was frustrated because I normally don't do that. I used to do that when I did school presentations but I never do that at open mics. I guess the bright lights and the moment got to me which sucks because I've played that club dozens of times.

Pretty much what everyone else said. Up that confidence and you'll be golden. I liked the whole "Slut Phase" bit. And you ended the set well too.

Keep it up and I'd definitely check out some more of your videos when you got 'em.

In this case, it's attached to the back wall near the ceiling. Often there will be someone with a camera on a tripod stand.

keep doing it blud. i started but had to start a work meeting so cant listen. the ugly bit sounded good

im not sure what your overall persona is going for, but one general thought i have about stand-up in general, is that comics rely too much on swearing. it just feels like too much of a crutch. i dont know how much you swear throughout the whole thing, but it's something to consider. im a fan of dirty humor that isnt just saying fuck shit fuck over and over

Big comedy fan here, and just watched the video TC.

Your writing isnt badbut heres a few things.

#1 thing that bugs me is the clicking sound you make constantly throughout the video. Its a sign of nervousness, almost like a tick. You gotta cut that out. Like ASAP.

You definitely do need to project more confidence in general. The content and the writing/material isnt bad at all. Your execution needs work though. Too many filler words and too much downtime.

That being said, great job! I go to a lot of local comedy shows here in my town and youd do well at the shows I go to. Ive always been interested in trying it sometime. I love writing material, but Ive never had the balls to go up and perform.

I thought you did great. Ive been writing stuff recently and watching you made me feel really good.

If I had to give any suggestions it would be just be faster, less time inbetween sentences. Get through the setup faster and get to the funny quicker.

otherwise I loved it.

Thanks for the input. I'm aware of the mouth smacking but honestly it usually doesn't pick up so well on video so I forget. I'm gonna have to be really conscious to get rid of it, but I've had several ticks I've worked through by focusing really hard on it.

This club runs a light on the ceiling. it's very hard to see and it's why you can see me looking up toward the end. this club is pretty strict about not running over your time so it's another thing you have to worry about while you're up there.
