Goes from an Irish nationalist/socialist to the dude running the estate because he married the boss' daughter (and the other dude who would've done it died in a car crash lol) and saying shit like "hey yknow capitalism definitely has a lot of good stuff going on"

Very disappointing the way they took him. I almost feel like most of his arc was what they were gonna do for Matthew before the actor asked to be written out and they just dumped it all on him instead.

Eh, the show just plummeted in quality precipitously after the first season anyway.

Seasons 2 and 3 are pretty good too imo

I even liked the "amnesia" arc in S2

After 3 is where it falls off quite a bit. Still good, but not prime like the first three.

I used to hate it, but my opinion of that arc went up a ton when I saw it as "con man tries to fool the family but no one else buys it and he singles out Edith because she's gullible and lonely".

Which it really seems like the interpretation the episode guides you toward.
