Yeah it goes from planetary exploration rpg to much more of a run and gunner toning down the rpg/exploration elements a lot.

Its not better or worse but quite different.

Yeah, I just beat it earlier this month, and it felt like two steps forward, but two steps back. The combat is smoother, but has less RPG elements. There's less of the bland copy/pasted planet traversal, but there's also less plot, with the majority of the game being focused on finding squadmates.

i see it like, the first game is mostly about building the character
second game is about building a squad
third game is about building an army

it's not a perfect analogy, but i think it works

The Mako itself isn't what was bad but the fact that a bunch of sadists at Bioware decided to make a lot of the planets extremely craggy and full of impossible to climb mountains.

Paired with my compulsive need to complete every map.

That aside, I otherwise enjoy ME1, a lot.

I replayed the trilogy in the legendary edition last year, and was extremely underwhelmed by 2 and especially 3. It wasnt as good as i remember and i cant imagine spending another hundred hours ever replaying them again.

ME 2 and 3 are very similar games, much more then ME 1 to ME 2.

Many people like ME 2 the most of the three games.

The gunplay in the first is terrible, the inventory is a crime against humanity. BioWare made the right choice in terms of streamlining the game and the series was better for it.

ME1 was KOTOR with a new coat of paint and the Mako. It's a lot more fun when you don't build your character to run and gun.

ME2 is pretty enjoyable, but there were lots of elements from ME1 they left on the floor -- elements I rather liked. The Mako does suck, though.

Nailed it. If you compare the base game side planets and how smooth they made the terrain of the Bring Down the Sky asteroid, they clearly figured out how bad some of that mountain climbing crap had been.

That's a great point. The Mako wasn't the issue, the terrain was. More maps like Bring Down the Sky would have been fun.

You gotta go in at a slight angle.

Then you can climb just about anything short of a cliff.

2 was a upgrade in my opinion, particularly in regards to the rpg elements and gameplay. But your shields felt like tin foil, even with all the upgrades I never felt tanky. And all but 3 of the heavy weapons felt clunky and gimmicky as hell.

But while the writing and side/Character storys were very enjoyable the main story was complete garbage. Seriously, ME3 gets hates for theirs buts 2s? Lol

The big bads motives made absolutely no sense. And The dlc mission imploded it entirely.

The pacing was also terrible. If you recuit some characters late its implied far more time has passed then it did. Which makes certain scenes feel really awkward.

This.

Aside from the whole "Point in the direction you wanna go" instead of an Accelerator/Brake setup, i dont recall there being issues with how the MAKO controls, its just the levels you have to navigate through thats the problem.

The Legendary Edition boosters help, as does the fact you can see how charged each set of boosters are, but yeah, shit ton of mountains.

It is indeed. 3 evolves on the "New system" from 2 a tad bit more, but you dont get the whole Vendor Trash stuff back.

Same. Played through 1 a while back, and then the Legendary Edition recently to have carryover data, and did the sidequests and DLC for both (or what was available in Legendary).

Started ME2 last year, and it just didn't grab me like the first game did.

What a coincidence, as I revisited the series after picking up the Legendary Edition and just finished 1-3 successively.

I remember playing 1 and 2 when they originally released, so completing them again with 3 and the various DLC felt special. It was a really enjoyable series and I didnt mind the changes made from game to game.

I think I stockholmed myself into accepting the Mako because I played through ME1 like a half dozen times, with the only thing to listen to while doing so was the in-game winds and barely audible music cause I didn't have a HDD for my 360 at the time <_<

Nothing like scowering every planet with only the wind noises to keep you company >_> and no guide or map to assist so you're having to be extra careful to make sure you don't miss anything.

My biggest issue with ME2 is the fact that the gunplay and movement somehow feels stiff, maybe even more so than ME1. Even Vanguard feels stiff.

ME3 is leagues better in that department. Like the biggest sin MELE committed was not bringing back ME3 multiplayer because I'd still be playing it to this day. The gameplay in ME3 is awesome.

For as much as i dont play multiplayer. This one was a bit of an exception.
