This is a snippet of a regression exported into excel using the command outreg2.

Holy shit. I mean, what is even the point of doing this???

How it should look:

  • Every piece of information has its own column
  • Asterisks removed from coefficient column and placed in its own because asterisks make it a fucking string
  • there isn't an empty row between every entry to store the standard error (in the same damn column as the coefficient)

R is the only tool I've used that produces nicely formatted outputs by default. But I have mostly shifted to just doing stats in python and dealing with what they have or generating my own routines. Feel like stats has largely become secondary to my data analyses, where I usually just visualize and describe results and run stats afterward because they are expected. Starting by trusting my eyes prevents me from running down meaningless effects that only pop out in summary.

I love RStudio. I only had one class that used it, but I really liked the IDE and how you can make graphs look. It felt easier and more intuitive to manipulate data than in Python or Stata.

Just use R or Python. Stata is horrific to work with.

the analytics track at my business school really pushes stata. technically I'm allowed to use something else but a lot of concepts in the class get introduced with accompanying stata commands.

Yeah, business people really like stata for some reason. A person that graduated from my graduate lab before I entered spent like a week learning stata and then started making large sums of money working for some wallstreet company. They had some sort of test re: stata to qualify for the interview.
