Initially outlandish sounding, yes, hear me out.
Here's what it is. You know how we have no real information on Vergil's time in Fortuna before DMC3? A few throwaway lines, a couple of cutscenes and some temporally impossible gameplay scenarios? Super Vergil Sunshine aims to amend this gap in the lore and detail what happened.

The idea is basically you take Super Mario Sunshine and make it about Vergil running around Fortuna collecting things that really look like Shine Sprites. Vergil would run and jump around wearing the F.L.U.D.D water pump, using it to clean up the various locations from DMC4. By the end he is a local celebrity.

-In place of Shadow Mario, you could have Red Vergil back in action or perhaps Vergil's doppelganger ability which he'd defeat and claim at the end. Here's a fun one. In DmC, that universe's Vergil also has a Yamato, perhaps he showed up in this dimension and decided to pollute Fortuna.
-Instead of Cut Off! and "Blast!" Vergil could instead say Come Off! and Splash! while spraying things. Begone! can stay. Instead of Slay all, he could say Spray all.
-All of the Fortuna residents could think he's calling himself a Sun of Sparda instead of Son of Sparda, since he's collecting Shine Sprites. It's only after he leaves they realise what he meant.
-Instead of a concentration meter, Vergil could have a condensation meter which grants him bonuses with the pump.
-The second level of Sirena Beach is a hotel level that's quite confusing to first timers. Vergil likes reading books. Vergil could check out the enclosed instruction book if he needs instructions on how to get through the hotel.
-The origin of Vergil's themes could be shown. Vergil could hear Fortuna locals playing the DMC3 final boss theme and Let's Just See from DMC4, maybe dance a little and start humming them to himself.
-After drinking a refreshing beverage, Vergil could say "Now I'm a little hydrated!"
-Vergil could wear sunglasses in this game.

"I'll try it your way for once" - Vergil to Mario.

This is also a good opportunity for the DMC franchise to establish some lore Summoned Swords technique.

If you look at summoned swords and listen to the sounds they make when they spawn and crumble on impact, they really have an ice spell kind of sound to them.

I say run with that, have a Super Vergil Sunshine plot point be the local ice cream vendor teaching Vergil to summon sword shaped ice fragments.
It's always been odd that Vergil got this ability so early while Dante had to powerlevel for decades, if someone directly taught it to him though, that makes more sense.
