i dont own a pit. I actually dont really even like them too much. I think they are too big and too energetic and require a ton of training and time more than other breeds. I dont have time for a dog that needs super long walks daily like sled dogs or agile working dogs.

I think they get too much shit from people and saying "its a bad breed" it excuses people from actually having to train dogs. That leads to shit like this because people say "ITS A BAD BREED!" and then another dog will suffer because we dont penalize irresponsible owners cause now they have another bad dog who wont get trained and will injure someone.

The only thing that happens in these situations is that the bad owner maybe gets a fine then gets another dog, the dogs will be put down, and then responsible owners are chastized for owning a certain breed of dog.

i never said that at all.

I said why in parts of canada where they did successfully ban pits did numbers stay the same and even before the ban were most of canada's dog related fatalities related to sled dogs.

My point being is that if the breed of pits were so inherently evil and dangerous why arent they doing the same in canada. Why arent the numbers dropping? It's almost as if its bad training and shitty owners who are the problem and not the dog.

Great danes arent commonly used because they are harder to get, big as fuck so it costs a lot more to feed them, and they are expensive in health related costs.

Rotties, Dobermans, and GSDs are a lot easier to get and cheaper.

pitbulls are more agile and muscular than labs so thats why they arent used as much.

Pits are also working dogs too but yes they have certain characteristics that make them good for fighting. They are small, muscular, and agile. Labs are typically slower, larger, and clumsy.

Also, pits aren't the only fighting dog breed there's multiple breeds they use for it but pits are cheaper and easier to get than Corsos and Mastiffs.

They don't just breed pits and they come out fighting. They get these big strong dogs and beat them. The beat them to the point where they die. Then the ones that dont die realize they dont get beaten when they attack the other dogs. The Pits arent naturally like that.

They created a dog breed that has the physical capabilities to be a good fighter and they warp their minds with violence.

Just go watch a documentary about it. It's awful but Pits themselves arent naturally violent its sick people that do it.

There's plenty of issues with the ease of getting pitbulls and the people who breed them recklessly. I grew up in poor area and i've seen how people "train" some of these dogs. Pits face issues that other dogs dont face but can. Banning them isnt the solution to the problem is all im saying.

it was not a badly raised or abused pibble, nor was he provoked. I havent heard of the likes of a golden retriever doing that

First off, i dont want to minimize what happened to the lady. anytime someone is attacked its awful and i dont want to seem like saying "its usually bad owners" its dismissing a dogs part.

Dogs dont "snap" it wont happen. Its usually sickness, injury, fear, etc. We dont know what happened. My dog is capable of it just as your dog is. Doesnt mean we didnt train them its just their instincts kicking in. So I can't honestly say why the dog bit her but I dont think the breed is the reason.

I have a similar situation with a smaller dog in my apartments. I have an elderly neighbor who is around my mom's age. Me and my mom live on the same block and she's friends with this lady. She has a chihuahua mix. Its an ok dog but she used to be able to walk it. It was fine little dog didnt yap too much didnt cause issues. The lady had hip replacement surgery and stopped walking the dog. She got this little weird patch of grass for him to on if he needs the bathroom. Well even for a small dog like that without the exercise or even the slight stimulation of getting out to the house the behaviors started. He barked all the time, he would nip at her, and he would tear shit up.

I have a 90-pound lab mix and we live near a pretty big park. I walk her around the park like 4 times a day. Just to tire her out. I also have a dog walker that comes 2-3 times a week depending on my schedule that takes her around that park usually twice as long as I do. My dog isn't perfect but she's well-behaved.

I gave my dog walker's info to my mom's friend and it worked wonders. He was back to his old self and behaved again. He didn't even need to go far. She literally would just walk him up the block and back. Taught him some new commands too.

Anecdotal I know but dogs arent just a one-time training. It takes time and effort to continuously train them to do things. I couldnt say much about that that old ladies situation if she trained her dog, if it was scared, if it was hurt, sick, crazy etc. All i can say is that there's no breed thats more prone to it and we have to go on an individual basis.

You said you have a GSD and im sure you've trained it well and its behaved. In other topics like these and probably the last the worst dog i ever met was my dad's GSD. He didnt train that dog well at all. She knew sit stay that kinda stuff but she wasnt socialized, she didnt love visitors, she would constantly try to bite me. I spent a weekend at my dads house once and that dog couldnt come inside all weekend because the fear of her biting me or my siblings. I love GSD's i think their pointy ears are the best and im sure if i saw your dog id give him the best ear scratches. The way my dad handled that dog made me realize its not the breed its the person.

That dog was so aggressive the wind blew down my dad's fence one day. The animal control people got her within 45 mins or so and my dad was at the pound within maybe 2 hours. The dog was so bad and so aggressive they put her down. My dad isnt a bad guy, he didnt beat the dog, he just didnt train her the way she needed. The dog did nothing wrong except be a dog. That's all im saying about pits. They are just existing and end up with people like my dad. Gets a big dog to scare off people and the dog is doing what it knows.

Also, I don't want my argument in favor of pits to be misconstrued. I still think most dogs should be approached with caution. Leashed or not.

If you don't know a dog stay away unless the owner says it's okay. Unless it's like an extreme situation like a dog stuck in a hot car or something.

Big dogs will fuck you up if they bite and pits are large muscular dogs.
