Finally finished Memories of Ive but now I'm devouring House of Chains and loving it. Karsa Orlong is a great character and I'm enjoying everyone from Raraku more than I did in Deadhouse Gates.

Still not completely clear on the whole history between Tiste Andii and Tiste Edur, but I look forward to Rake coming back. And do we get more of the Segulah in the future?

There's actually a pre-history trilogy about the Tiste by Erikson. Phenomenal writing in it too. Would recommend.

So I'm at the point where Bidithal is about to violate Felisin and I have to ask if anything actually happens just so I can prepare myself x.x

If you're reading the ICE books alongside the Erikson books, yes. If not, there's a little bit of Seguleh later on but not a lot.

This is the series. Focuses entirely on the Tiste and other ancient races, heavily focused on Anomander Rake.
I've read the first book but not the second.

The part you're about to read is infamous for making readers feel physical disgust, and many people I know had to take a break from reading afterwords.

Rest assured though, Bidithal gets what's coming.

Yep, it can be very brutal at times.
That particular scene us rough, and I don't normally balk at books.
I've not read many other pieces that made me that uncomfortable. Notably kite runner, which is fare more tame in comparison.

I read a lot of horror so unfortunately I've seen a lot of uncomfortable stuff, though I try to avoid authors that confuse shock with fear

I understand what they were going for.
They wanted us to be disgusted and revile the character, and feel so much empathy for Felisin that it hurts.
Just.....he didn't have to do it so thoroughly.

Just don't talk politics with him and he's a fairly average poster.
He's just politically extreme and refuses any viewpoint but his own.

I enjoy talking about Malazan though because not much discussion happens anymore.

I only get frustrated with this Hogwarts BS because those who boycott AND shame others (if just boycott, that's fine) can't see how hypocritical they are by all the other things they buy that line the pockets of people just as, or even more, terrible.
