I used to cash random paychecks in $2s.
Ended up using them for a down payment on a house.

If you don't see them in regular circulation then that means they are rare, cause that's what that word means.

They are In circulation

You can walk up to a teller at a bank and ask for them.

But you'll rarely get one unless you go to the bank and ask for it specifically.

They aren't rare if they are easily accessible and not worth more

Yeah probably. Doesn't change the fact that they still print them though. The fact that you typically don't receive them as change is probably a corporate decision

collectible paper money is heavily dependent on rarer serial numbering.

a random $2 bill is only going to be $2. one from the shortest printrun (2009 B*), regularly sell for $50-$100. there are only 128000 of them, out of the 1.5 billion $2 notes. great condition and/or an interesting serial number can multiply that by quite a bit, too.

2 dollar bills weren't in print for a decade starting in the mid 60s. Older folks holding into them is just a holdover from that time.

Imagine if they decided to kill the $10 bill in modern times. I'd be stacking those suckers to the ceiling.

We had a guy at work that paid for most things in 2 dollar bills. It was his thing. I rarely see them in the wild.

Once saw a weird guy at the grocery store that payed in all two dollar bills.

He was older, all dressed in red white and blue, and tucked into the band of his hat was a bunch of two dollar bills. This was probably late 90s and I had never seen or heard of a two dollar bill, and thought he was so cool tbh lol (was a kid).
