Evelyn.

I was thinking about how disappointing Cyberpunk was again.

They went through the trouble of making her story so sad, making her extremely interesting, having you jump through hoops to save her, etc...

Then she dies.

Then you mention her to the Voodoo guys and they're like 'lmao she wasn't useless, and also a whore'. That's it? Seriously? It's like the most half-baked shit.

And it's all to build up Judy who, while pretty well designed from a visual standpoint, is so incredibly fucking boring. Her missions suck, especially that underwater one. It's just meh.

And I know, people are like 'B-b-but it's realistic! Death is final and sudden! It's so realisitic!!!!" This is a game set in the future where you're able to make your hands into gigantic blades and jump up in the air and hacking into people's brains. Realism isn't deep. It isn't fun. I don't wanna do taxes in games. I want deep, satisfying storylines and good writing.

This was pretty much the point where I turned off my brain and stopped expecting good writing from the game.

Not only is there multiple happy endings, but my issue wasn't that, it's that the storyline means nothing and despite her character's death being so incredibly impactful, all you get is a boring line where they mock her and your character doesn't do shit about it. It's an unsatisfying conclusion, and bad writing.

Did you read my post or did you just skim it? Feels like the latter.

There's multiple happy endings in the game for various side quests. The main storyline doesn't technically have a happy ending, but everything else does. That being said, not what I was saying at all.

I didn't mind that part, since it reminded me of one of those noir detective stories, where a significant character has a terrible end.

also, I liked it Judy parts.

I kinda just explained why.

You have this important storyline in the game, you jump through all these hoops and have all these moments.

Then when you can confront the people responsible, it's just like 'oh yeah that whore guess she was useful'.

And that's the end of that. Character is forgotten.

Just bad writing and a terrible conclusion.

No,

she fucked over multiple powerful organizations and gangs. The game wasnt very subtle in letting you know she was gonna die.

Because that's all she was to them.

It's not bad writing just because you were personally unsatisfied with it. It is however, kind of a hallmark of the genre for people's lives to end with a whimper.

its almost like the world they live in is shitty. I mean the drug addicts beating off in the street, and the subscription ambulance services didn't give it a way?

The problem isn't with cyberpunk. The problem is with you.

That's not even close to the point I'm making. It's the fact that your character, who was actively invested in saving her, can't even mention her beyond a single line where they insult her.

It's ill-fitting of your character. And just, yes, bad writing. It's a throwaway line that does absolutely nothing. Rather pointless, tbh.

Why would they? Literally only judy and your character even knew her. to everybody else she was a whore or just some rando.

Seriously. I don't think you understand what "bad writing" is.

Of all the things, you shouldn't complain about Evelyn. There's the shoehorning of Keane reeves as silverhand. And then silverhand being in your head is okay but the whole thing where you only have limited time to live and then the game let's you do random story and side quests like you have years to live when you only have a few months.

The point is, YOUR character cares.

It's sorta like the choices in Mass Effect, it's just given a single line as a resolution to an entire storyline and it's rather pointless.

thats not a story problem. Would you rather play a long ass rpg on a short time limit? Yeah sure that'll go over well.

Cyberpunk takes inspiration from noir so that makes sense.

Anyway, I don't really agree. It may feel a bit unsatisfying or sad, but it's not exactly bad writing.

Because its a drop in the bucket. Like literally, you see people who die just as bad as she did on the damned street. Hes lived with this his entire life, its not new. Thats what you're not understanding.

Yep

Pretty much anybody in that setting who says "one last big payday before I live happily ever after" is going to die a horrible death, especially if they're trying to ripoff a person/organization that is infinitely more influential than themselves.

That's like calling Jackie's death, which is also handled extremely poorly, a drop in the bucket. It's an important character death that's basically ignored.

It just reminds me of some Mass Effect shut, where it's some quest that the game makes you think is important but later on...just fizzles out when you get to it's conclusion. That's bad writing. Bad writing isn't just 'I luv u 5ever'. It's failing to make a cohesive narrative while intentionally trying to connect everything.

This was kinda the turning point for me where I just realized the writing isn't building up to anything interesting, it's just shit. But it stands out specifically because of how it made me realize this.
