I thought Nero was all about absolutely pulverising things rather than dancing around appealing to nobody. He doesn't even get much of a reward for filling the style meter like Dante gets from Quad S, he's just randomly posing and pretending to operate prehistoric cameras.
You think he'd be all about destroying enemies in the game where he gets his arm confiscated and everyone treats him like crap.

Here's what it is.
What your buster grabs will get you in DMC4:
-Nero grabs things and slams them with more force than in 5.
-Animations are quick, and often have little end lag.
-Lots of things end up launched across the room.
-Berial gets rapid fire punched and launched across the screen, Bael gets picked up and slammed, Echidna has the thing where you have to mash LT, Credo gets folded in half like a chair with "PUNCH ME" written on it, Agnus gets slammed then filled with swords then launched.
-Berial and Bael have second grab animations, Echidna's charge can be countered, Credo's spears can be sent back.
-DT can cause animations to change.
-Beating the fuckin shit outta the pope.
-"SLAM DUNK!"
-Using it in the last cutscene to destroy the corrupt Savior.

Where grabbing things will get you in 5.
-Weak grabs where you hold on to enemies then shoot them and then lightly kick them over.
-Slow wrestling move grabs where Nero takes a few months to get up after landing.
-The game feels floatier than 4 so there's less impact on all slams.
-Sound design feels less impactful than 4's.
-Unhype moves that don't really look all that brutal like him spinning the Behemoth and whatever he's doing to the Judecca.
-The Furies are making Nero look bad in his own grab attack. In 4 only Dante could really do that.
-Gets stabbed by Vergil when he grabs him. If you do this grab twice in one fight it's like Nero falls for the same thing twice.
-Generic beatdown animation for Gilgamesh, Cavaliere and Urizen instead of actual grabs. Goliath gets this too before the fight finally moves outside.
-Swinging Goliath and throwing him in slow motion is too slow and unhype, Artemis' is like Echidna's but worse, King Cerberus's is like he just runs and cuts him at the same time, Malphas' one is kinda good but it and the Vergil DDT are definitely the exceptions.
-DT barely registers in the animations.
-In the last cutscene Nero swaps the hand that put him on the map out for a regular hand.

They wanted you to use the other arms sure, but they didn't outright take the grab button away. Why did Nero get so much worse at grabbing in a game where he's supposed to be much angrier at the start and much more powerful at the end?

I don't know if you guys just listen to Bury The Light on loop or just watched a few Donguri videos one time but I played these games and these grievances are the real deal.

For reasons never explained, the angry screaming Nero of DMC4 is much better at grab attacks than the post-rite of passage Nero in 5.

dmc 5 is definitely floatier and slower than dmc 3 and dmc 4. its just so obvious

at least there are mods to help w/ that iirc but just talking about its base state

The only legit complaint I saw was the about the pacing and replayability of 5. The rest was off-base.

Not really. There's similarities, especially the air throw where a lot of time it's just a basic grab enemy -> throw enemy down. Those spinning lizard guys basically have the same air grab as the giant scarecrows from 4 too. Because of the lack of speed and weight things have in DMC5 though, they still manage to come off as nerfed versions.

Nero doing the Zangief Final Atomic Buster against Alto Angelos was metal though.

Here's a funny thing.
Sometimes when Nero does the generic punch kick animation for Cavaliere, Gilgamesh, Urizen and Goliath he yells "Got something special for ya!" when in actuality he straight up doesn't.

Here's another amusing instance, although this one is more about Vergil than Nero.
If Vergil lands his big, glowing, overly telegraphed Stinger on Nero, he'll sometimes remark "It's past your bedtime."

While they're fighting it's actually about 4-5pm in the afternoon in the middle of the year as the cutscene before the fight will tell you. It's also not hard to tell by the bright sky and the sunlight still covering everything that it's not night time.
