It has hidden shrines that have like 1-2 puzzles in each and beating them gets you either a piece of a heart or a piece of a stamina block (your choice and there's a way to respec if you change your mind later)

EDIT: It also has the *mild spoilers* master sword hidden somewhere in the world.

Be warned. There is a durability system. Every weapon you will find will break after X amount of hits. And even once you get the master sword, it needs time to recharge.

and you cant climb shit when it rains. Youll spend a ton of time simply waiting for the rain to stop so you can finish exploring

It's more in line with the first Zelda than LttP/OoT, but it's still an amazing experience. Your daughter will love it.

Also the world is huge but empty, the iconic Zelda music isn't there, and there are no real dungeons or gear to collect so once you leave the tutorial zone you have everything you're going to be using for the rest of the game without any real sense of progression.

BotW has more gear in armor than any other in the series, and you'll want to collect the armor. Fair warning, upgrading armor requires farming components from all over the world, which can be tedious.

Shrines are the stand in for dungeons. They're basically 1-2 room micro dungeons scattered all over the world.

Durability isn't an issue unless you want it to be. Weapons break quick, but do double damage when thrown/broken, so slash slash smash is the way to go. And the game just buries you in weapons so you'll never run out. It really does help going into the game thinking of them as disposable.

Also, get used to the d-pad for quick qeapon/shield/bow swapping. It's much faster and far less intrusive than menu surfing when a weapon breaks.

Rain does indeed suck. More stamina helps with this, but usually you're better off trying to find somewhere to make a fire and pass time. On that note, start collecting wood and flint early.

You should get Links Awakening instead of Breath of the Wild. Its similar to link to the past, and one of the best games in the series

Botw is an amazing experience

I played it throughout a course of 2 months about 2.5 hour sessions per day so I didn't feel burnt out too quickly.

You'll be fine. Breath of the Wild is a different take on Zelda. Weapon durability becomes trivial when you have an idea where good weapons are located and you have a mass amount of them. The lack of dungeons does hurt it, but the number of shrines and things to explore more than make of for it

Think of the traditional Zelda dungeons being broken apart into 120 puzzle and/or combat rooms and scattered all over the world. Plus the 4 divine beasts, which are about half the size of typical Zelda dungeons. All the "dungeon" content of a Zelda game is there (probably more tbh), it's just presented differently.

And yeah durability is a nonissue.

both Link's Awakening and Breath of the wild are really really good games imo

you get a lot more playtime from breath of the wild though, link's awakening is still full priced game and quite short but it was a hell of a lot of fun

It's OK. It has this really weird fan base that acts like it's the first open world game they've ever played. It's downright bizarre since we've had games like this for years now.

I mean not all open world games are good, also Zelda Lore, Zelda music etc. enhances the experience for sure

and well if your only console is the switch then you haven't had that many open world games

Breath of the Wild? Yes.

I like the Zelda lore and have played every single Zelda game (except the first 2). BotW has loads of Easter eggs and lore for people like me to enjoy and explore.

There's also creative mechanics to fool around with.

Hoping TotK does it even better.

Now if you really aren't all that into Zelda lore, you might not enjoy the open world like I did.
