Every empire must end at one point. And a Republic of the West Coast, or a Republic of the North East would be very rich.

The US, and the rest of the world, would do very poorly if Republicans were given unchecked control over significant fossil fuel reserves.

When the red states realize they're actually a leech on the blue ones and can't support themselves they're probably gonna invade the blue ones for the money.

Texas already sold off all of their oil manufacturing and all other oil is already routed to Louisiana in a very unchecked way.

Everything from Virginia up to New York could be one country and it would probably be as rich as say Belgium or Netherlands, New England I can see as the Scandinavia of North America (very rich and high standard of life).

The West Coast could be one of the world's top economies by itself. Honestly all of these places would have universal healthcare and other good stuff which the Republicans have been blocking in the US for decades.

I feel bad for the rest though, if the red state remain united it would quickly descend to an oligarchic mafia state like Russia is now.But it would be as poor.

Even the most democrat or republican counties still have around 20 to 30 percent of folks voting for the other party. Do those folks just all have to move?

Secondly, who gets what federal infrastructure? This would include federal lands and things like military bases.

How would commerce work? You would need to develop trade agreements between the two new nations.

How would currency work? The dollar is a fiat currency and backed by, basically, the power of the unified country. The new currencies would be valued how and what if they are valued drastically less than the dollar?

Just imagine needing to develop all sorts of new foreign agreements and military and trade agreements too.

I am not sure of a scenario where the countries end up in a better position separate than together.

Politicians, etc. would need to figure that out, I guess. Like how they figured stuff out after the Soviet Union split. Some of those countries now (Latvia, Estonia, Czechia, etc.) are very rich and nice now.

they stand to lose Medicare, Medicaid, social security, food stamp, farm subsidies and a whole lot more. Blue States prop up Red States like an insane amount

This is really the fist problem, at least for the "blue states" as there is a lot of "red" land separating them. You'd basically have to make two separate "blue countries". One on the east coast, one on the west, like TC described in Post #7

My assumption would be the people that wanted to move would move, or otherwise live an a "country" who's belief structure they do not align with. Which actually happens all the time.

This would probably be the most telling of all the aspects of the split, which "side" foreign countries would want to work/trade with more willingly.

I feel that "blue" side of this equation would make out better than the "red" side would, as blue states currently control most of the current economy, and whatever agricultural advantages red states currently have can be made up by trades and the vast amount of untapped land currently in blue states.

This is all obviously hypothetical and quick thinking without doing a true deep dive into it.

Id rather not live in a theocratic hellhole. And you know thats what the red country would be.

The red states would start a war with Mexico for more land and eventually start a war with the north resulting in pretty much any country that hated the US before the easy win to take us out collectively.
