Now this game throws me back

I tried several times but never finished it. Combat was too tedious and annoying

I've played it numerous times.

It's in my top 10 of all-time list.

I loved that game but I'm not upgrading my ps plus johnny

I bought it last year in PSN and never played it

so lately i've been trying to look at games through the lens of whether or not they really respect player time -- legend of dragoon is right in there with a bunch of psx jrpgs that forgot to try to make battles quick. legend of legaia is another one, and a much worse offender.

Great game, but unfortunately was on a system that had such a massive amount of incredible JRPGS already that it just got kind of lost. Still one of the most fun and engaging battle systems though especially for PS1 era. Music was great too and the game is just charming as hell.

Getting money in that game is a grind.

It was intriguing enough and certainly had a lot of cool moments the story goes bonkers near the end but I guess that isn't that unusual for rpgs of the time. I just watched a full story recap on youtube because I knew I was never going to beat it, but was still curious. I've played it a few times throughout the decades but the last time I tried was probably a decade ago.

Combat was strangely innovative and one of the more annoying things about the game. Timing your hits certainly makes battles more involved but the timing for some of the attacks I could just never get down and then they throw in counters where you have to hit a different button and it's just like ugh I am struggling enough as it is for some of these. I remember using Volcano (!!!!) a lot because the timing was easy. Sure there were some others ones that I have forgotten. The battles also did seem slow and I never complain about slow battles either (probably timing the attacks out etc drags them out) Music ranged from great to mediocre.

Going back to the combat is it true that the timing gets all messed up depending on what tv you used? I probably did play it last on a LCD flatscreen, but even on a CRT I remember having trouble anyways.

ive now dedicated my life to makng sure new players dont miss kongols dragoon spirit on disk 2 and dont write shana off as weak due to her lack of additions

i think every new player benches shana.
but she is the second most powerful party member. but yeah the limited inventory means to get the most out of her means you have to build your inventory around her to make the most use of her

well shana is the second fastest party member so she will get multiple turns over slower characters
and those throwable items that do elemental damage also take the magic attack stat into account when dealing damage. and shana has the highest magic stat in the game. so a thrown item of the enemies weak element used by shana will deal more damage than the other characters are capable of doing.

plus her final dragoon spell is just amazing. deals a ton of damage and heals the entire party for a ton of HP

the tier list would go

meru > shana > haschel > lavitz > dart > rose > kongol

lavitz has the same issues as kongol. low speed and magic defense but his blossom/rose storm spell is one of the best spells in the game and makes up for his weak areas.

rose is a crutch character. on disk 1 she is better than everyone. but she doesnt get very good stat gains at level ups so around disk 2 everyone else ends up better than her except kongol

but its a pretty easy game in general. you could use a party of kongol and rose the entire game and stlll wouldnt struggle.
and rose does get an amazing final weapon which makes her great again. but i discount it because she doesnt get it until just before the final boss
like literally 2 seconds before the final boss

Burning... RUSH!

Got about halfway through it and just stopped. Between oversaturation of the genre and the Dreamcast, I dropped a lot of RPGs around that time

Huh. Yea I never knew that. I always felt like Rose was a little weak as the game went on but I'll still use a character I feel like is cool or I just like even if they may be a bit under powered. The farthest I ever got was the last time I played it. Probably (eh I'd have to look it up) but something to do with the winglies. Blah I just looked it up. I think it was their forest. I thought I got farther but apparently that was just chapter three. I feel like I got farther but I probably never did get to chapter 4. Oh well.

I own the game on PS1, and have a copy on Vita. According to their own notes, I may be able to download and play it and Wild ARMs 2 on my PS4 and PS5.

i was watching a guy from ireland play the game on twitch
and i learned that meru's second addition is called something else in that region though the voice line still says hammer spin. but in the menu its called something else

as far as half naked underage girls in jrpgs go meru is one of the best ones
its kinda odd that is such a common character archetype

TC should play both not one or the other

LoD isn't that great. I just finished it a couple years back and the number one thing that annoyed me was that even if my speed stats was higher than the enemies they would still go first sometimes. Combat was repetitive and most of the time you don't even want to fight. Takes a million years to level and learning a new additions really burns you out.

I remember it being a great game.

Loved it back in the day but never got to the 4th disc

its first 2 disks are its best disks
its third disk has isnt bad. but its 70% an exposition dump
they cram so much information in it.

disk 4 is rather uninteresting to me. i really love the last 2 dungeons but the rest of disk 4 is probably the weakest part of the game

I dropped it when I got stuck on the ghost ship boss fight. It was long enough ago, so I might not be remembering correctly as to what the problem was. What I remember is that Id defeat all the enemies and theyd all just resurrect. After 2 hours of that, I just gave up.

These old games did not age well. If they are to be re-released, they need a speed up button as most remasters does.

The key to that fight is you gotta get each enemy down to red without killing them.

Then when everyone is in red, take them all out before they can regenerate.

Thats what I figure was supposed to happen, but what was happening is theyd just regenerate anyway.
