I mean, its visually exquisite and theyve managed to quite successfully translate the feel of HP intothe game.

Buuut, the quests and story are lacklustre, formulaic and unimpressive, and the gameplay is very solidly average.

The Merlin trials are so cookie cutter its ridiculous.

My wife was given it as a gift, and its in the Xbox, so Ive been giving it a spin.

Its an average game, just like pretty much every other AAA open world game. Not aggravatingly bad, but not stellar.

I've played 8 hours so far and it hasn't hit its pace yet
Expect it to get better because it benefits from the lore of a book series

How is it for someone who has not seen the movies or read the books, but just looking for a nice open world fantasy rpg?

You certainly wouldnt hate playing it, but The Witcher 3 would be more fun, honestly.

You wouldnt enjoy it. A lot of this game is entirely based on fan service.

This game is also hella bloated. I would definitely be having more fun if I just focused on the story.

nice to see opinions that aren't saying it is GOTY that stuff was making me angry because from the streams i saw it looked no better than horizon zero dawn (heck arguably worse in some aspects like in enemy variety. at least hzd has variety in its robot dinos). still looks like itd net me like 60 hours worth of goofing off but im not gonna buy it

Given what they had to work with and what they could have done, its like they tried to make the most tepid game imaginable. They clearly put a lot of thought into designing the world, and it shows, but the gameplay itself is half-assed

They should have given it to a company like Rocksteady instead of trusting a developer not know for open world games to do it.

They should have made more differences with each House. I wish there were 4 completely different plots based on your House. Maybe you deal with the same main threat, but each House should have its own goal or perspective on what's going on

so far its been like 90% fetch quests :/

"talk to Person A, then go talk to Person B, then go back and talk to Person A, mission complete!"

I feel like people who like the modern Assassins Creed formula will dig this regardless of fandom. Its similar in a lot of ways but mixes things up with all of the magic and environment.

With all games like this, some of the puzzles are bloated and pointless, like the Merlin trials. There are so many for no reason. I like the number math doors and the moth painting frame ones.

Its severely lacking mini games like Wizard Chess, Quidditch, Gobstones, etc. Overall happy with the game though, been pretty hooked since I started.

I have no real interest in Harry Potter so playing a Ubisoft-esque open world game about it didn't appeal to me.

I really just wanted more of a social simulation type of game. I've never played any of the Persona games, but something more or less along the lines of what I understand those games to be.

there are people out there who think elden ring sucks, this game didn't have a chance.

If there had been like 10 merlin trials total, that would have been totally fine. Like the math doors, they wear out their welcome fast.

At its heart the game does play like an Action-Adventure title with light RPG elements. People wanting a Persona experience, or a choice-driven CRPG are going to be disappointed.
