Supply and demand

There's far more people available that do the real work. There's not as many people around willing to sit on a computer and learn excel or respond to emails or attend meetings.

So those that do the real work don't make as much money as the people that don't.

Personal finance is never taught in grade school. Lifestyle creep, buying more expensive stuff when you get a raise to show off to your neighbor. Most millionaires don't become millionaires until their late 40s, and it's usually because their 401k/Roth IRA finally breaks a million, not that they have a million in liquid cash, and that is if they've been saving for over 20 years.
